I'm hoping to be able to spend a few dollars on a new exhaust and/or a new intake. I've made my mind up on the K&N, but haven't decided on the exhaust. Anyways, this may sound like a stupid question, but, it wouldn't be the first time I've asked one. If you buy a muffler and have a shop run you new pipes, can they be mandrel bent, or are they just pressure bent? My main reason for asking is because as long as I'm spending the money, I want the max hp gains. Is the muffler where you get the gains, or is that in the collecter/piping? Any input for me?
What set ups do you have?
Obviously, mandrel bent tubing is desirable, however, for our application, the difference between pressure bent pipe and mandrel bent pipe is not significant. I've you're building a big block rig that's pumping out >300 rear wheel HP, I'd consider mandrel bent tubing.
For us, the big thing is getting rid of the 2.25" pipe (don't go bigger than 2.5"), getting rid of the stock Y pipe (Gibson does a good Y pipe with their kit), and getting rid of the stock muffler.
Somebody else here has a custom Magnaflow system like mine. In fact, I borrowed his idea. I think another guy has a bolt on Gibson exhaust system. Here's the thread to my new system:
