Hi everyone.

I have a Thule roof-top box, and cannot fit it on the stock cross bars on my '06 OR (they are too thick). I would like to buy two metal bars (hollow) and somehow attach them to the side rails, so that I can attach the box to them. Any suggestions are welcome, as long as the solution is cheap and sturdy enough (don't want the box to fall off while wheeling or on the freeway). Is it safe to drill through the side rails?

Thanks in advance.

i dont mean to second guess you but i believe a few members here have the thule on their X with no problems. you might want to use the search function for the word thule to see what you come up with. it could just be a wrong part that can be replaced via a phone call or an email.

welcome aboard btw!

Thanks for the reply. I did do a search, and found one relevant post. The guy uses U-bolts and 2x4s. As long as I can find the right U-bolts, I will try that solution, although I would feel a little more comfortable with metal vs. wooden crossbars.
