Well, after dropping off the babysitter last night I was feeling a little ornery on the way home and was, how do I put it, HEAVY on the throttle. Now I've driven some fast cars in my day and the X is no racer but for an SUV it kicks butt! I figured I got enough break-in on my beast and opened it up quite a few times and left everyone in the dust. The VQ40DE really just keeps on pulling up to redline (6000 rpm) without letting up. Most power seemed to be available above 4000 rpm which falls in line neatly with these dyno runs: http://www.jackphelps.com/frontier/dynotesting.htm
(I'm assuming the variable intake opens up around 3750 or so which explains the flat uppper power curve.)
Heavy throttle offline was good too- the front end just rose and the tires dug in real well with no squeal.
I (not my wife) always run with the VDC off and even though I'm not sure if it really makes a difference it seems to by my butt-dyno. Supposedly affects the throttle-by-wire and variable intake and such.
Anyway, I was impressed....
