I don't get MPG(miles per gallon), I get Litres per 100 Kilometers ;-)
On the highway, I get 22.7 on the last long trip. I don't know what I get around town since most my driving is highway. But the last time I checked it was about 17.

There are a lot of ways to improve mileage.
1. Keep the tires aired up to 35.
2. Check your tires once a week when cold with a good tire pressure gauge.
3. Reduce weight of the vehicle. Remove any junk that is not necessary.
4. Keep the air filter clean.
5. Get the exhaust Y pipe in front of the muffler replaced with a y-pipe that is not so restrictive.

If you have oversize tires, lift kit or any of the goodies for xtreme offroading, you will sacrafice mileage.

Or buy a hybrid. :D

silly metric system....that the whole rest of the world uses. :geek:
Couldn't find my level on poll;

<Don't care<don't track
I live in Las Vegas, NV., every 2 blocks ya get a red light. The lights are so long, that when it finally turns green, I forgot where I was going.

So, what would be the sense of checking the mpg.

Please don't suggest that I turn it off, with triple digit temperature.

I've done A LOT more straight freeway driving this week. Curious to see what the difference is in MPG.

Learning the shift patterns of the auto trans is helping us out around town. The trans goes to full lock OD at 38 mph (61.2 kph for dpatton) level road, steady speed. Learning what the trans is doing on your daily commute and making it work efficiently will net several mpg. As bodacious pointed out these things burn gas sitting still (.3 to .9 gal per hour, dpatton you figure it out). At $4 a gal you use about 4 cents a minute with the AC on sitting still.

Setting the ScanII to readout throttle position along with instantaneous mpg will help a lot.

The biggest way to save gas is to "not be in a hurry". If your late you should have left earlier. I've got to move about 563 miles north in a couple of weeks and it should only take 4 days. Take your time save some money for beer.

When the price of my Scotch (Oban) gets over $350 a gallon that's when I'll really be mad.
stupid question......does the scan II void the warrantee?
x-mann,
I hope not. I'll unplug it and stick it in the hidden glove box when I go to the stealer. It's just reading info and not modifying anything.
Who ever gets 18 to 20 is lying! Do you guys get to drive down hill everywhere you go?! I can only come close to that kind of mpg if im on a long trip doing highway driving.
Around town I get about 16.6 MPG.When I work in South Maui, about 35 miles away,I get about 18.5 MPG.There really is no 'highway driving' here.Even where the speed limit is 55 it`s rare you get to do it for too long.It can be an extremely frustrating drive but then I can always look to either side of the road and mellow out pretty quick.

SSSssshhhh don't rub it in their faces, we'll only end up with more Californians!

I get about 13mpg by hand calc.....still working on why.
with original tires on my 2007 s model 4x4:

16-17 around town sometimes 17.5 to 18 if i babied it.

18.5 --- 22.7 or so on highway. slower means better. got 22.7 recently before new tires went on and that was computed manually without scan guage. Scan guage saud 24mpg but it was not set right due to the s model having smaller tires than the OR which our speedos are calibrated for.

first full tank since new tires- got 16.3 around town. been babying it mainly with a few WOTs.

tonight, going on 170 rountrip so will see what i get when i refill tonight. expecting 20-21. be happy with 21.

oh, i have the BFG 265/75R16 AT KOs on now.

i'd say so far, i lost 1.5 mpg around town. we shall see what highway does tonight.
See less See more
I meant to say, the mileage pre-big tires would have been overestimated by about 3% or so due to the speedo reading faster than going.. My speedo read 65 at 62 or 63 based on gps. Anyways, taking that into consideration that would mean i didn't lose 1.5 mpg, but instead like maybe 1mpg or so.... which jives with what i saw today, 16.5 mpg.... but who knows....

the best i did on the highway was 22.7 going 65 on my speedo which is really 62 or 63 mph. I will do the same tonight and see what i get.
With a 5" lift, full armor & 305/70/16 xterrains - overall ave. 14 mpg
I did 4 70 miles trips this week and my computer`s reading 19 MPG!
ran 170 miles tonight. gauge went to a tad below 3/4's. according to the scanguage, i got like 21.5 mpg overall on the tank. that's going 60 mph towards the coast, and 70 mph away from the coast all highway. not too bad....
