Just got off the phone with craig at 4x4 parts..Very helpful,Wanted to get MB predator 16x8....No luck..Indefinately back-ordered ,need more orders to even start production..HOWEVER..he says they have 17x8 in same wheel for immediate delivery..There are lots of tire choices with 17" But WONT THEY STAND 1" taller??He says yes..So now a 285/75/17 probably wont fit the X..Make any sense??..need some imput.

Look at a 285/70R17 It's pretty close to the same tire size as 285/75R16
Nope it will sit the same height, your sidewall will just have a less tire. Think of it in doughnuts. You will have two identical outside diameter doughnuts with two different sized holes.
Yeah, but he is looking at 285/75R17 tires which would be larger than 285/75R16 tires.
You're right 285/75/17 is too big (I don't know if anyone makes that size). Nut you should be getting 285/70/17 (33x11.5x17) that is equivalent to 285/75/16.

If you go with R17 you might also wnat to consider 275/75/17 (32.5x11x17). THis size should have no rubbing at all and its bigger than 265/70/17 (32x10.5x17) that is the R17 version of the OR OEM tire. ONe bad thing about this size is that there isn't such a big selection available.

:)

mmm.. doughnuts. I'm hungry.

Craig just called back..He says the 17 is definately 1" taller when this is in the equation, want to make sure we are on the same page..

265/70/16 our stock tire...30.6 " tall

265/70/17 31.6 " tall..

Sound right??

he says with the 17" rim there are tons of rubber choices in aggresive At" that run awesome on road...I.E. TERRA GRAPPLER...NITTO..265/70/17.........Alot less wieght than bfg"s 285/75/16

He says nothing to very little avaiable in 265/75/17 ..Goodyear something but major bproduction problems..

Ok, I think there is some confusion on tire sizes.

285/75R16 mean

285 is the width in mm
75 is the aspect ratio of width to height
R16 is the wheel size in Inches

So yes, if you keep the width and aspect ratio the same and change the wheel size, you will increase the tire size (in height).

A 285/75R16 tire is the same size in width and pretty close to the same size in height as a 285/70R17.
he's correct..in that if you JUST plug the 17" inner rim into the numbers, then the tires will be taller...but most of the time you just correct for that.

like the stock tire size is a 31" (about) tire....so, 265/70R16 or 265/65R17.....

tires sizes tend to run similar, even with different rims.....i've never seen a 265/75R17 or a 285/75R17 (not that they don't make them...i dunno...but are rare if they exist)...

so with a 17" rim, you just gotta be aware that the nomenclature is different, for the same size tire.

the 'donut' is a good representation of it
I concur... Craig reccomended..17x8 predator and go with..275/75/17 (32x11.5x17) Goodyear ATS..Aggresive look but still road good..
275/75/17 (32x11.5x17)

That is an incorrect size.

a 275/75R17 is 33.2x10.8x17
Whew! I'm glad I don't know shit about tires! And now I don't want to know! All I need to ask is do they fit and will they balance! Maybe, what do they weigh. :silent: When are we going to go 100% metric anyways! MC
To be honest, the metric measurements for tires suck. I like the Metric system for a lot of things, but the way they do tires is a lot more complicated. Give me the width and height and what size wheel fits and be done. :)

Someplace I had posted a good explaination of how to convert the metric into US measurements for tires, but I can't find it and really don't feel like trying to type it all again. :)
BTW, Tire rack has the weight of the tires on their page (click on Specs).

Did you get the difference between AT and MT in the BFG's? Wondering. MC
we should put a sticky at the top, with that tire size calculator from XOC

No, the pages were running too slow for me and got fed up. But since you had solid numbers, I was curious so I checked the 285/75R16 AT KO's and the 265/70R16 Long Trails (your stock tires) and it is a 21lbs difference (57lbs vs 36lbs).
Well that chart is pretty accurate then eh? That means the rim weighs about 25. So that gives me some info. I'm getting somewhere. I am thinking your MT's are going to be lighter than the AT's. By like 4 lbs.
Man if I can get to a 10 lb loss of what the AT's are now. I'd be cool with that. MC

Um maybe you shoudl call the company that exclusivly sells the MB brand of wheels. Since they are made for discount tire you shouldnt be able to get them from anyone else unless they are buying them from discount and reselling them.
