The challenge in trading up when married to an accountant is that we have to wade thru a series of spreadsheets to justify the need. Shopping with her is hell, as every item must be computed down to cost per single use. Selecting a package of pasta is a ten minute ordeal! But I can’t complain much as she arranged things so I could retire three years early

But crap that PRO4X is a sweet truck! The only thing it doesn’t have is a backup camera
Buy it. You only live 1 time and not forever. Have her compute your happiness on a spreadsheet. backup cameras are cheap. Just tell her, " Barrilla pasta is worth it and enjoy it. Not Everything is about the pennies". Good luck.

You know, I’ve met a couple guys in my life who’ve bought a classic car without their wives knowing. They just showed up to the house with it and that’s that.
Just saying
years ago when I left the house for work my wife said, "Don't go & buy that Porsche". I came home with a 911SC Twin Turbo Targa. The look on her face that night was priceless. She grew to like it except that it was too fast and we lived out in the middle of nowhere.

@JeffInDFW - That’s how I got my tractor! She couldn’t relate, but her father had a yacht when she was a kid, so I told her to think of it as a land yacht

I had a chance to get the PRO4X up on a lift to check the underside. No leaks, but some odd rust. Just surface rust on the frame, but the skid plates and the rear axle and diff were covered in seriously scaly rust. It was odd, like the skid plates were sacrificial parts, but the exterior and interior, plus the engine were immaculate
Buy it. Get the rust removed & undercoat it. It will last forever.

No one can tell you what is right for your partnership but you. My wife and I are truly partners, so “just do it” would be an a55hole move.

Fortunately, she is incredibly invested in my happiness, so as I was thinking about it, she’d be the one in the other room going “buy it…life is short”

Good luck, whatever you choose.

@dbarufaldi - Thanks. That pretty much sums up our relationship. Dismissing her concerns would be a Dick move. We talked about it, what the move would cost as well as what we would gain. She disappeared into her office for a while and returned to tell me we could swing it. That’s how partners in life do things

I don't think, in all fairness, anyone said to dismiss her - sarcasm aside.
The point was more "make it work". She is the accountant, but you should know the overall situation of your boat/particular situation, and you were not getting an aditional vehicle, just a replacement.
In the end you would do what you feel right for you - the dick move would not be to dismiss her, the dick move would be to dismiss her based on the word of a forum.
I knew (in my situation) that things would work out, so I went for it. Simple as that.

Must’ve felt like you were in the accountant’s, loan officer’s and your boss’ office all at the same time

my point is, it’s a used car. If anything your 1095 days early for retirement turns into 1000. Now you get a better vehicle with less miles to enjoy into retirement.
More of a, hey I’m leaning this way, just to let you know. I’ll handle it on my end and casino nights won’t be affected
