My Emergency Brake light is kind of on and has been for a good while. It comes on fully when I set the e-brake but the rest of the time it is slightly illuminated. Brake Fluid is topped up, I just did brake all around, replacing both rear calipers (one was ceased, was hoping maybe that was the cause, it wasn't) I have checked the switch on the e-brake that turns the light on and it seemingly comes up all the way, couldn't move it up any further.

Anyway see the picture below, any assistance is greatly appreciated. I have no noticeable performance issue but with the first kid on the way, I want to make sure this isn't more than a weird ground issue or something.

Is your battery light on at the same time?

if they are both on something is up with your alternator

Confirm brake handle is fully lowering.
Bad Switch
Rear parking brakes not fully disengaging
Fluid level low
Fluid level sensor failing
Fluid level pressure could be unequal in the brake lines.

I removed the cup holder and check the handle and it lowers all the way and I could active the level switch there manually. When I was working on my brakes, light was already doing this, I checked to see if the parking brakes were releasing and they seemed to function normally, though I don’t know what all the way released would like like versus what I have, which releases allowing to let the wheel turn freely.

Brake fluid is full, and brake response is good, no mushy pedal. Any way to tell if pressure is unequal in the lines? I will look into the level sensor.

If you have a pressure difference in your lines you will often have your vehicle pull in one direction or another.

A tip.
When "Googling" the net for a problem with your Xterra, start your search for your specific vehicle make model etc.

I haven't noticed any type of pulling under braking.

Appreciate the advice, I started looking online by my model type, I forgot to mention it here. I have an 05 Off-Road, just put an '18 VQ40 in it. (Light was on before the engine replacement.) All the info I could find was about brake fluid level or E-Brake handle not releasing. I will see if I can find anything regarding this issue searching under a Frontier.

UPDATE: I disconnected the M/C Level Sensor to tested for continuity. I have a closed circuit when the reservoir is full which leads me to the switch is faulty. I did notice though, with the sensor unplugged I still had the slightly illuminated Brake light on my dash. I am not sure if that makes sense or not, I would hope that if the sensor connection let go the vehicle would indicated there is a problem.

remove the pleather sleeve on lever and replace it gets in wad of e brake lever travel enough to keep the switch slightly off from full contact in turn the light is on but not much because it’s a very low almost not though for the relay to engage and it go off. This also will put extra Dre on you charging system and battery losing life span on both

Also we live in the modern age and service brakes meaning driving front or rear on a 4 way fisk brake system are under hyd pressure and brew the vehicle to run for the brake booster to create the pressure to operate at highway speeds no engine power = very port braking ability like if you’ve ever been towed by another vehicle and rope feels like it won’t really stop 🤔 and parking brakes are controlled by mechanical system that needs nothing other than the pads a cable and a few good living notches to keep in place. The e brake pads are on the interior wall and the spread away rather than pinch like disk brakes or push against the rear rotor two different systems in one place so e brake light issues can’t be fluid pressure related seems how it has none it’s the switch not making proper contact throwing said relay shutting off light some times people over complicate things to seem as if the have mechanical knowledge or ability
