So I have a shrockworks rear bumper I installed last night and it came with a small light with two small wires coming from it. How do I wire this to the wiring harness and not have an extra license plate light hanging somewhere behind the bumper?
Unplug the OEM bumper harness and toss it. Black wire on light goes to ground, and the other wire will go to the licence plate illumination wire, which you can tap or splice into just before the OEM connector. Very easy. Posted via Mobile Device
I used the OEM harness & 1 OEM light. For the 2nd plug, I removed the bulb and wrapped the light clip in a lot of tape to keep stuff out of it. THE OEM harness is long enough to work and the OEM light looks better than the one that comes with the bumper IMO.
Do you mean the hole in the plate bracket provided by Shrockworks ( which is 1 1/4" diameter ) or the hole in the bumper , which is slightly larger ( assuming you skip the bracket ) ?
I will caution you that the DOT actually requires two bulbs to illuminate the back plate. If a cop or an inspector (if your state requires them) knows that bit of trivia who knows. I went with an LED frame on mine.
