For my 20120 Xterra S I
I am thinking of buying

Does anyone know if either of these will work on the stock cross bars?

I have looked at the Thuie and they are out of my budget.

I am not interested in used.

Thanks

I have something very similar that was an 'amazon special'. No need to spend a ton of money unless you have a daily roof clearance issue that may require a fold-down. Spend the money kayaking not on a roof ornament.

look at the bracket that goes around the cross bar in the items you posted (fits a 4 inch wide crossbar). You want a flatter piece of metal stock to secure to the crossbar because it is oval. the 2nd link you posted has a very curved piece that would be better suited for a small round crossbar. The Artipoly brand bracket looks sufficient. You can go to the hardware store for longer bolts if the provided ones do not accommodate the depth of the stock crossbar (unlikely because you can bend the lower piece of metal stock to curve around the crossbar)

DO NOT trust any lashings that they provide you at that price. I use rated ratchet straps if i hit the highway.

***Ensure the stock crossbar is 4" or less. I made a pair of crossbars since I am carrying 2 double kayaks that probably would have broke the stockers.

Don't get those folding type J-racks. Those pivot points will fail if you use them a lot. Go with the all steel Amazon versions Amazon.com . This is what I used and it's been lasting me for 3 years or so. I used them on the stock crossbars but you'll have to get longer bolts to fit the clamps. Don't forget to go with stainless steel bolts, nuts, and washers. Here are some pics of my setup. Hope this helps.
