3/26/2011 Update
Added some yellow lamps to the fog lights today.. of course it would start raining as soon as I sat my arse on the ground.
got them from here
-- update October 2011 --- One of these bulbs burned out on me, so I sent them back to the company under their warranty for an assessment. They replaced the set with brand new ones.. in the meantime though I put in some hella optilux, so Ill see how those hold up and keep the retro solutions bulbs as backups.
Factory Lamps

Right yellow fog added

both yellow fogs added

5/28/2011 Update

put the magnabra back on last weekend and snapped a beauty pic.

Also installed the Metra FM Modulator I got from Ramness. Stoked that I can finally plug in some aux devices.
I also got a can of duplicolor something or other

yeah, I know its off center, bugs the crap out of me but thats what I get for rushing through it while eating at burger on lunch time Friday.
(I think the guy that runs the shop would have been pissed if he'd seen me at the drill press with a burger in one hand and the press arm in the other)

Also got one of those usb power thingys.

Oh, I relocated my horn to here:

Thats just to the drivers side of the radiator ...seems solid. Put it there because I didnt feel like disassembling the front grill though.

but I did it so I could fit this monster in there:

And holy crap does it make a difference.
I installed the volant and re-installed the hypertech tune (took the tune off last month to go back to the dealership for my one free, first oil change). But yeah, very nice. I can definitely tell the difference from when I had the tune on with the stock intake too.

edit: 07/10 - painted grille and front facade

edit: 10/25/11 lookie lookie at all those xeros

edit: 12/25/11

added the rear diff breather yesterday, only took about 30 minutes.

I find myself with plenty of time for rumination this Christmas. So I thought Id take a moment to ponder on the 1 Year Anniversary of the X.

Last year on Dec 30th I somewhat spontaneously stopped into a dealership and purchased a new Xterra, 2011 in Lava Red. I told myself I wasnt going to to it yet, but I had gotten far enough in my research to almost be convinced it was the vehicle I wanted. Well the guy made me a deal I still feel was the best I was going to get on a new one... so I bought it. At first I had some buyers remorse, in part it was making that darn payment every month and that I may not have made the right choice for a vehicle, and I had some concerns about the overall reliability and quality of the vehicle. But here it is almost a year and 15k miles later, and Im convinced the only better choice I might have made would have been to wait longer to find a used OR model X. But here I am, I makin the payments and loving the truck. I want to do more just so I can get more use out of it, but Ive used it enough to really know what improvements I should focus on. Its done great on the few road trips Ive taken it on so far, and I look forward to many more years of use and abuse.

At this point my planned mods for 2012 are as follows:
•Rear Bumper -- how cool is it that I won a rear bumper from bucksnort and 06xse. I may not install this for a while.
•Skids -- full set ordered from the shrock group buy.. so when ever they get here. still waiting on the last one.
•Tires -- still want hankook dynapro atms, but got a good deal on procomp all terrains. done and installed.
•magnaflow 12580 - done and installed.
•Roof Rack -- drop in rack from dephep
•Suspension upgrade -- debating between prg or nistech coilovers for now, with new rear shocks, and preferably full leaf pack replacement, so I guess ome.

Aside from all that theres these things Im thinking about:
•maybe Ill get to some Sliders - done. at the powder coater, having them redone. they were pretty beat up.
•ims - ordered, needs installing.
•want to install a good Inverter and hardwire in the ac plugs. theyre on my wish list on amazon.
•maybe some onboard air while Im at it.
•interior roof net from Raingler
•brighter hatch deck lighting
•train horn

Some where around the end of January '12, I finally took my X to a 4x4 park where I met up with some other x'rs and frontier guys, and had an absolute blast. Fortunately I had taken that brush guard off the front before I went... I think I like it better with out, so Im going to leave it off for a while. If youre interested I might sell the brush guard to you. local pickup only

Update 3/22/2012

Finally got some better tires, sold the stockers on cl.
Also had the exhaust installed
no exhaust pic. I looks like all the others though.
heres some tires instead

Update 4/15/2012

wow, today was a fun one. I got a few things bolted on and/or change out and so far everything seems to have gone without troubles.

First i started the rear diff. oh look, theres that shiny new muffler. :)

draining

thats about 17,500 miles on the oe fluid.

cleaning

reinstalled

then while the rtv was drying I started on the sliders. once I got one side on I went back and filled the diff with Royal Purple and cleaned up the mess. Then got into the other side slider.

used sliders I bought off the forum

cleaned up and refinished

installing

(they dont make em like this anymore)

installed

Maybe next week Ill do the front diff. diff fluid stinks something awful.

update 4/28
well I made it up around truckee last weekend and had some fun.

after a bit of a tough water crossing and some rocky muddy silt sections, I was glad I had installed the rear diff skid, and really glad I had upgraded the tires. I also decided I should definitely get the rad skid and engine skids on.... So today I installed the auto dim/temp/compass mirror, and the rad and engine skids. I guess next will be t-case and gas tank skids. at least t-case. I may pass on the trans and gas skids for a few. they seem to be the bulk of the weight.

8/9/12
Installed the hd rear hatch struts the other night. super easy and no more banging my head.

10/6/12
I want and saw greg at PRG, bought an expensive sticker that came with some suspension upgrades.

also did the front burger:

Im sure Ive done some mods in the last 6 months, I just dont remember what they were...

I know I replaced my sway bar bushings, which ended that annoying clanking sound I was getting all the time.

other than that... just the usual gas, wash, and wheel.

heres some fun pics. thanks to those that took them.

4/5/2013

ROAD TRIP!

I changed the oil and did the usual checks before I left. Time to clean it up and check over everything again.
Note that the femco failed to fit with the shrock skid plate.
nice photoshop! :) Have you decided what type of lift your going to do?
not completely. Im up to aals and coilovers at this point. been looking at this ome thread. I kinda guessed Id want about 2"- 2.5". but Im seeing 1.5" that looks pretty good. I'll have to get the tape out this weekend and do some measuring in real life.

Ok, so it basically took me about 7 hours to do, and I still have some things to tidy up, and I need to make the final aiming adjustments for the lights and tighten them down real good.. but here it is.

Headlights

Headlights and two center driving lights

Headlights and all four driving lights

Headlights, fog lights, and all four driving lights

Headlights and fog lights.

obligatory crappy cell phone pic of the install. Ill get a better one soon.

they approved

edit 5/1/2011
pPics of install added. I dont think I like these lights, and looks like they take on water too. so theyre not completely sealed.
but I think I figured out a way to get hella 410s to fit.

these are the lights I got

Thanks Guys! Im having fun with it too.

i really like the keypad on the roof rack. how did you do that. write up for it?
Ordered the key pad from someplace I dont remember (there are several threads about them, I believe they have been discontinued but saw them recently on ebay for a bit more than I paid). Follow the included instructions to get it recognized by the vehicle. Then removed the double sided tape and stuck it on there. Easiest mod yet ;)
