Yep, agreed...the Standard system blows....BTW, anyone crack open the RF Sub box yet to see the type and size of the Sub?

The stereo in the S sucks! Sounds horrible, like an AM radio in a 1970's car. Pretty shitty since its 2006.

I have heard that changing the head unit makes quiet a bit of difference. I have changed the head unit out on cars in the past, and it was the best thing I could have done.

I replaced the factory head unit w/ a Sony XPLod head unit.

http://www.crutchfield.com/ISEO-rgbtcspd/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?g=300&I=158GT300

It has an aux hook-up for all those w/ I-Pods. . .

It made quite a bit of difference in the sense that you have more control over the highs/lows/mids. The RMS of the head unit definitely utilizes the speakers better than the OEM head unit. My next upgrade will probably be a set of speakers.

Good luck.

It's an 8" woofer on a custom box.

I agree Stock stereo SUCKS. RF ROCKS!!

You can get a nice Alpine head unit, amp and decent speakers for $500, maybe less. Checkout overstock.com I've seen some nice stuff there.

The first thing i did to my x was replace the head unit with the brand new $330 Alpine one..... it is a world of difference, not to mention i can now hook up my EYEpod to it :cyclops: I love my alpine..... and i actually use MP3's more than my ipod b/c my ipod battery = shit and i dont feel like taking the time to get it, plug it in to my compy after it charges a little, and putting songs on it when i can just dump 200 songs onto an mp3 cd and it shows the song title, band name, and album name on the head unit when it is played.

The change of stereo quality is also nice..... mostly because it was HD ready and HD radio = the best and its free!

Def go with a head unit i <3 Alpine, so i reccomend that. But im def going to replace the tweeters and add a sub. Ill wait till i blow the speakers to replace them too.

Hey Catalyst

get the Ipod interface for the Alpine unit and you can just leave your Ipod in the glove box and run everything of your head unit. My ipod is never less than fully charged and easy to get to in the glove box (top one). I do have to unplug it if I haven't used it for a couple of days..needs to reset the hard drive I guess.

Haven't used my EyePod :cyclops: at all since buying the New X with the RF. Used to have a Pioneer Head Unit with an Aux cable for the iPod in my 1st Gen X. I just pile 6 CD's full of MP3's in the RF and swap 1 or 2 out every now and again when I purchase <cough> download more music.

Speakers are a weak point in factory system. But they have almost no resistance, like 2 Ohm's? So what you put in aftermarket will really make you want a new head unit and some power. That was my 1st Mod. Whole new system, two amps, speakers, Sub 1450 Watts total. But I hardly jam with it, I just listen. you can hear everything.

I replaced the head unit with a decent Pioneer...mostly to have a decent equalizer and aux connections for ipod/computer/etc. I also had a 2 channel amp laying around so I picked up a ported box and an RF P2-12. The sucker has around 320W RMS to it so I can't crank it up (blown it once, but that Best Buy replacement coverage is golden). I have another 4 channel amp laying around but it's old and I have no idea what the specs are on it. Once i get around to it, I'll either replace the 6x9s up front and the tweeters of go for a 6 1/2" component set. I'm also considering mounting the tweeters right above the door handles on the inside (did it in my old truck) but because of the angles, it's debatable.
