Important rear axle info!!

OK...as some of you know, over the last few days I have been researching the rear axle for XterraRacer's '05, OR, MT...here are the things I have found out---some of them VERY interesting...

1--it is nearly the SAME 32 spline, D44 variant that appears under the OR and MT 2nd Gen X's, as is under the Titan (well, no duh you say...) but it is also the same axle that is under ALL NEW '07+ JEEP RUBICONS!! Yup, same D44 variant...some of the smaller internal parts I "believe" are different but thats about it...

2--you're thinking "great, everybody will make stuff for Jeeps and we can just use or slightly modify that stuff..." Nope...talked to Currie Enterprises (of Jeep fame) said they aren't making and have no plans to make ANYTHING for the JK Rubicons...will just replace the entire rear end if there is ever an issue with anything...

3--on a more personal level...I was able to track down a company that WILL make a custom spool for this 32 spline D44 rear end so we SHOULD be able to run a full billet steel spool in the next race!!

Thats great news! Hopefully that will take care of the rear end, and make it a little stronger.
I know that Superior Axle and Gear have made 4.88s and 5.13s for the D44 on the new JK. http://www.project-jk.com has the write up that Off-Road Evolution did on the install.

I wonder if that means that the D44 front axle on the JK would be an option for a SAS.

Yes, but are those gears for the D44 that is in the JK X and Sahara editions?? those are the old style 30 spline axles...the Rubi's and Xterras are the "new" style D44s with a 32 spline count....
I read this as they are producing a gear for the rubi.

"Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to cover the installation and testing of the 4.88 gears that went into Kevin McNulty’s 4Wheel Drive & Sport Utility Rescue Green Jeep JK Rubicon Unlimited that’s sitting on top of 35″ tires, but I was fortunate enough to cover the 5.13’s that went into Mel Wade’s Off Road Evolution Silver JK Sahara Unlimited that’s sitting on 37″ tires. And, after going for a test drive before and after the installation, I can tell you that the results are outstanding!"

Ah...you are correct...so at least the 4.88 gears will be done for the Rubi....not sure if that helps us but I do stand corrected...thanks for that info!!
I'm just parrotting information I've read on other sites. I'm by no means speaking from a position of authority.
I heard the new wranglers have a new lug pattern...I'm guessing it isn't the same as nissan, but if the axle housing is the same...

I've heard dana diffs drop right into titan axles, but I don't know what you do for the side gear spline difference. perhaps you have to swap your side gears into the replacement diff..I dunno I don't follow the titan stuff all that closely, just thinking out loud.

The new JK's are 5 on 5" bolt pattern.

Vince :clown:
Can any of you axle guru's tell me the following?

-Ground hub diameter for the 05/06 Offroad Xterra?

-has anyone converted from a flat flange to u-bolt pinion yoke?

Thank you.
this is interesting, might mean something, might not..

http://www2.dana.com/pdf/XGI.PDF

lists the model 226 as the "super44" and uses in the previous generation grand cherokee (WJ) using the same 5x5" pattern the new JK does.

i've seen this same thing put up on titan boards stating that they are referring to the nissan d44 with that, and the titan d44 IFS with the model 216
