what sucks about this the mandatory E vac is that it has shut down the supply stores in that area. leaving only 1 Lowes store on the non E vac side of the intercoastal water way and they were out of everything yesterday. what burns my buns is there making everyone panic by sending info notices over the phone saying get out of Myrtle Beach while you can yea yea better safe then sorry. but i think they could have waited one more day. as it stand now every road in to the beach started closing at noon. people that were out looking for supplies got caught for what ever reason on the wrong side of the water way. now they cant get back home. I will put it this way it's FUBAR

I don't understand how people in hurricane paths have no supplies come hurricane time.

I don't envy anyone over there, the impending doom is the worst. I just finally got my roof done a couple months ago from Harvey.

I am in the Suffolk area of VA, and they are evacuating people in zone A up here. I am in zone C and plan on waiting out the storm. Topped of the X this afternoon and have my extra cans of fuel. I have enough food and water for about 2 weeks (being a preper and an Eagle Scout really come in handy....) and most importantly I have enough beer for about the same time frame.

All water and sand are sold out up here. Had the girlfriend calling around so I could keep stockpiling jerry cans of water and fuel, but we will have to make due with what we have. For those of you getting hit, if you have 5 gallon buckets from Lowes of the Home Depot, fill em up and use them to flush the toilets with. That's what I plan on using and then the bathtub water as a last resort in cooking/drinking/toilet flushing.

Just to toss it out that way.. For the Older style hot water heaters good for water too.. Many homes no longer use them..

As with back up for The Toilet.. IF it backs up from Water surge. need Plan B for Number Two..

Oh definitely. I'm in RVA so this is what our Precipitation looks like. We're stocked up on Bread, Ramen, Peanut butter, Jelly, and water. Chainsaws ready to go. 4 cars filled up and 30 gallons of gas extra. We have trees all around us that are leaning extensively and are likely to come down in this hurricane, perhaps even striking our house. In that event we evacuate to a neighbors house with coolers of food and then with flash flooding we jump in the cars and leave.

The newer generator didn't run very good. I didn't get a chance to start the older one but it's been fine in the past. I did get the tugger box almost finished and there oldest got the trailers out to the middle of the yard.

Rain fall amount estimates for my area have decreased by 2/3 since this morning. Looks like my brother and his family in Burlington, NC may get pounded though.

It depends how close they are but if you have any ratchet straps you can pull on those leaning trees and leave tension on the lines so when they do let go there's something to guide them away from the house or anything important.

Wife wanted to stake some of her young trees better, and I needed some new stainless hardware to re-hang my patio lights when this thing is over so I crazily decided to head to Lowes.

First - the normally ignorant drivers were downright rude today. Like those pictures you see of those crazily overpopulated cities in India with no traffic controls.

Went to Lowes. They must have gotten a generator shipment since that is what everyone was buying. The two ladies in front of my had a generator and one 16 gauge extension cord of about 20 feet. Lowes is air conditioned, but they keep it fairly warm - maybe 80F, since most people there on a normal day work outside. They were both fluffing their shirts and saying how hot it was. So I think to myself - your buying a generator a day before a storm, and complaining of the heat inside, perhaps your the ones the governor suggested should leave.....

Would it be logical, to already have the Plywood stored from the last few hurricanes???.
OR dam good marketing.. BUY new Plywood and Generators.. They need OIL?? haha that is funny..

Must be a east chain.. seen this today.

If Waffle House is open and serving a full menu, the index is green.

If it's open but serving a limited menu, that means the index is yellow.

If a Waffle House is closed, the index turns red.

Been through enough hurricanes in my life growing up in florida.

even after moving to colorado where hurricanes are not a problem i still keep 1-2 weeks worth of food, water, fuel, booze and TP.

it amazes me how unprepared many people are(now i think in gerenal people on thenewx are going to be more prepared than the general public).

If i were within 50 miles of the coast id probably have gotten out of there days ago. even if you make it through the storm the following weeks/days will not be fun.

When I was living in TX, I used hurricane/storm preparedness as an excuse to get an ARB fridge/freezer. Then last summer, I used the same excuse for a CB radio with weather alerts and a Rotopax water tank + 3 gal gas. When Harvey came through, the radio came in handy for weather and news alerts when the power went out for ~13 hours, though I didn’t quite end up needing the fridge. Definitely would have needed it and more had I been living in Houston that summer, but fortunately I was in Austin where the edge of the storm just barely got to before turning back.

Some of the girls my wife is in class with referred to me as "one of those smart types" when Julie was talking about the things we had here.

20 gal water
10 gal gas
2 generators
8 Coleman lanterns
4 oil lamps
4 Coleman stoves

I'm not sure what she means?
