First things first, I just want to say I really respect this forum and that's the main reason I bought my 06' Xterra. An active community with tons of how-to's and suggestions, right up my alley.

I've owned a fair share of old 4Runners, doing a bunch of mods and repairs, nothing too major.

Recently coming from a 1991 4runner (22re), that died quietly on the side of the Yellowhead a couple of months ago, I needed a reliable vehicle that I could trust every time I turned the key on.

And so came the 06 OR Xterra.

Dirty Pic

I've done a couple of things so far with it, bought some carriage bolts from fastenal and created hooks for the utilirack setup. (came without them)

Had to replace the rear hatch gas struts, and lock mechanism. The water had ripped right through the lock and everything seized up. Stealership robbed me of $80 because I couldn't find the part online. The parts guy even told me that for an *additional fee he would have the lock re-keyed so I could use my original key. I thought 80 bones was a rip off to begin with. SO I ripped apart the part, hoping i could just drop the lock part into the new one. NOT THAT EASY. :( . The door does properly lock now and the spare key does work properly.

Raingler net, that was a given, I do tons of camping. space is valuable.

I also cut up a spare mat that I got from work, made a stencil and diced it up.

And replaced the l license plate lights, the whole assembly. One side was missing, and the wires were all severed from the rear.

Other things that I've done are:

- Replaced the air filter compartment, seems like the PO jammed it back together, and the seal wasn't sitting right were the 3 ridges fit into the holder. Replaced it and dropped a regular K&N in (thanks Amazon).

- Reverse lights fuse, all trailer fuses needed to be repaired.

Things I'd like/love to do in the future.

- Need non-winter tires
- I own a kenwood nx-700 CB - ordered the Diamond k-400 Mount. more to come.
- acquire or paint bumper / hitch, POR15 all the way.
- propose to the girlfriend
- replace suspension, looking at OME. Up for suggestions, or something sitting in someone's Alberta garage, so I don't need to order from the states (stupid Canadian Dollar  ) Had the woman's parents in the back over the weekend and it felt like it was bottoming out on railway crossings.
- Armour up, shrocks, hefty, anything really.

AND - Ordered cup inserts, almost the most important piece of my DD. PLUS install my basket from my old 4Runner onto the X.

Love camping, fly fishing and my dog.

Cheers!

I'll be joining the AXE people eventually. I'd love to get up close and personal with a modded X so I know what's I'm up against.

Drop me a line!

I drive down and wheel with the AXE guys fairly regularly, you could jump in with me if you don't want to get your truck dirty yet. Welcome.

Welcome. I had five adults in my truck yesterday and was bottoming like crazy on the frost heaves. Considering my replacement springs ( stock warranty replacements) are about 6 months old I was a bit surprised... But having read these forums it should be expected. What you really need to do is Register for GONEmoab.

Welcome. I noticed that you were looking at the ome set up. I picked up mine from partsource here in ontario. Front springs were 300 after tax and the rears were 275 a piece. Plus 40 for the bushings each set. Dealer springs were 266 a piece so it was a no brainer for me. Nice X and welcome to the forum. There is a lot of knowledge here that has helped me a lot. Have fun with the xterra.

Welcome from Montreal! I'm sure you are going to enjoy your truck, I can only say for myself, that this is the best all around vehicle I've ever driven.
