I plan on running sythetic eventually after break-in, but what's the best way to break in a 4.0 before switching to synthetic? How many miles should I wait before determining if it's broke in?

I think the owners manual said 1000 or 1500 to break it in, I don't have it in front of me but you can find it. You should be driving varied speeds and not one speed for a long time would be best for it.

As when to switch to synthetic you will get 30 different opinions on that one.

You do not need to do anything special to switch to synthetic oil. I would do it at your first oil change. As for breaking in the motor, keep it under 4k RPM for the first 1500 miles and you will be all set.
