Morning ya'll,

I replaced my non RF head unit with a Kenwood, and a small self powered sub. Everything is working fairly well. Last thing I'm trying to do is figure out how to make it all sound good together.

I understand cross over tells the head unit which output to send the audio signal to, so you don't blow out the twitters with too much power, so that sub gets the frequency range that it needs etc. I've been fiddling with it for a bit and so far it's not a 100% there yet.

When I listen to podcasts, spoken word, I feel like there's too much low end, the voices are "too deep" if that makes sense.

If I turn that down (via the EQ) then I start losing the low end during music play back.

This is where I am at right now. Any tips/references on how to balance things out:

I have the dmx906s and a 12" powered sub in the rear and listen to 50% podcasts and 50% music.
Try lowering the LPF down to maybe 100 or 120hz to remove the bassy sound from the voices. You might also lower the gain on the subwoofer and control the gain from the stereo on the equalizer screen.
I would lower the HPF on front and rear speakers down to 80 or 100 Hz to make sure there is some overlap in the frequencies covered instead of a gap.
Then use the equalizer screen to adjust the sound from there.
The amplifier in your new head unit might be powerful enough damage your stock front and rear speakers, but thats more of an issue of controlling the volume knob.
Have fun tinkering!
