ive got one on my x. and a spare in the top storage in case the other vehicle doesnt have one

i love it. used it to tow a car 2 miles home, pull a stuck toyota, stuck jeep and stuck ford out. the shackle is good, but my tow ropes suck.

EDIT: forgot to post that you should get a locking hitch pin. people like to steal those receiver shackles.

ive been wanting to get a hitch shackle like that for a while.

if you dont have one you can just put a hitch pin in and connect your tow strap to that. ive done it a few times and it works ... just doesnt look as cool as the hitch shackle.

I recently purchased a htich shackle (truck tampon) and I noticed that the inside of the square part that goes in the hitch is hollow and the strength issue worries me. I have yet to tow anyone out. I was just wondering, for those that have these, is yours solid all the way or the same as mine, and what I should do about my situation.

So do you think I should be ok with this one and still be able to pull people out/get pulled out? when I bought it I thought it would be solid. I also only offroad moderatly. Not everyday, and not in extreme terrrain.

-thoughts from the veterans?

The majority of tow hitches are hollow. I have the standard Nissan tow hitch which is hollow and I've towed 8000+ lbs without any problem. You shouldn't have any strength problems.

my tampon is hollow and ive used it plenty of times. dont worry about it. mines rated for 10,000lbs. with the truck only rated to 5000 anyways, ill never get closed to being nervous about using it. Ive towed cars, trucks, tree trunks, etc with it.

have the HF version on my Xmas list. cheap & simple.
Thats the one I have.
Throw that junk away. I'm pretty sure there was a thread on Pirate 4x4 about the welds failing on these. A good, solid, one-piece cast or machined receiver tube isn't much more.
