Hello,

I've been searching for an XTerra for about a month now with little luck. I'm hoping maybe you guys can help out if you see anything.

Here's what I am looking for:

Years: 05-08. 09+ is ok but more than likely it will go above the money I want to spend on this project. But send them all my way.

Must have 4x4. Prefer it to be the Off-Road package. I've wasted a lot of time looking at listings online by dealers who think anything with 4x4 is "Off-Road."

Color: Anything dark. Prefer Night Armor but Black, Midnight Blue, Canteen Green, Granite, Greys are fine. Silver might be ok. I don't want red, yellow, white.

Transmission: Prefer manual but with off-road, these are as rare as hen's teeth. Auto ok if it comes with the off-road package.

Location: Anywhere. I will travel for the right vehicle.

There's a few I am currently looking at if anybody has input:

This one has really high miles. High miles don't necessarily scare me as I am pretty mechanical and do a lot of work myself, but I'd still rather see something closer to 100k.

I think these guys want too much. They did recently lower their price from $11.9k so maybe if I wait them out they will get to a reasonable price:

This one is a bit of a travel for me, but I will do it if you guys think it is a good deal:

This one looks good but way too much?

Thanks for any input. I'm hoping to join the club!

Try Craigslist. I think they have more Xterra listings than Autotrader.

Plus you need to list your location if you want others to help you narrow the search.

Thanks for the advice. I forgot it didn't ask me location when I signed up. Updated now. (I am in Houston, Texas).

I've exhausted Craigslist in the major Texas metropolitan areas. All the 4x4's are up north it seems.

Too bad you live so far away, I have an off-road 05 with all the tsb's done. It has 100,009 miles. It's a great vehicle but I don't use it much anymore. I was thinking about selling it for around 8 thousand or so.

OP what's your price point?

Also the off road package (depending on what you want from it) you could make yourself on a regular 4x4 X.

Its mostly Bilstein shocks and a locker.

Dude.. that's one hell of a deal with all those aftermarket add-ons!
Yeah it is! The only two "downsides" is the color and the fact it is fully built kind of takes the fun out of this project... But those aren't bad downsides to have. I am really interested in it.

Do you have any photos?

After doing the research, I thought the Off-Road was best because of the electronic aids and the locker and that it would be hard or impossible to add them on aftermarket. But looking around on the forums, it seems nobody really mentions the electronic aids. So they might not be so useful after all.

Is that fold down passenger seat only on the Off-Road?

My intended price point was $10k with $3-$4k for mods and repairs in the near term. It is not set in stone, but I don't want to go over $15k on this project.

It look me about 6 months of looking to find a local OR model that was in good shape before I found my 05, this was just over a year ago. I paid about $10k for it from a Nissan dealer who had just done the timing chain, new brakes/rotors/tires/etc. It had about 97,000 miles on it.

Yeah, I had the same issue as you - every non OR model was listed as OR, and every OR was listed as an S or SE. You can quickly pick out the OR's from the pictures though - says so on the side, and look for the 6 spoke wheels. Also if there is a picture of the inside look for the locker button on the dash.

Here are a few in my neck of the woods (SF Bay Area), but probably more than you want to spend and kind of far from Texas.

Keep in mind that mislabeling is common.

My Off Road was listed as a standard X on the dealership's website. But I wasn't even relying on the dealer's info, I just looked at the interior pictures to see if there was a diff lock switch, and looked at the exterior pictures for the factory lights on the roof rack. And of course the "Off Road" emblems on the side, although someone could have just stuck those on there.

Maybe you did your research and know about it very well already, but if not beware of SMOD in those 05-08 models with auto transmission. Good luck in your search!

Couple of dark ones here in El Paso. No manuals or ORs though.

I have an OR but I agree, you can throw a locker and better shocks on another model.

The one in AZ looks like a heck of a buy to me. Somethin about that white just calls to me. Just cant explain why????

How soon are you looking to buy one?

I've been ready to buy since December.

I've got more potentials since making this thread than in 2 weeks of searching the internet myself. Looking through them and reviewing my options. Thanks all!
