so .. ive been piecing some parts together to go with the Volant i purchased off here on the same trip to pick up the aforementioned radiator. i have an AEM filter ready to go in, the missing bolts that secure the box to its new home. All that in addition to a new CARB sticker for my year/model corresponding to this Volant. But, after some back and forth with Volant on how to order a lid and MAF gasket from them, they sent me a new lid for free, along with a couple of new bolts, but completely forget my MAF gasket. So, now im calling them trying to raise their specs rep again to simultaneously thank him for the Free brand new lid they sent me while claiming i need more things that he forgot to send to me for free with the first free gift they sent. im sure that wont be an awkward conversation at all .. when somebody finally calls back.
also, in the depths of the soon to be mine volant box, what i found floating around in the dustiest corners of said box while chatting with the seller in his garage was what looked like a large vacuum adapter. the guy who sold the Volant to me said he could never figure out what that part was (he purchased it second hand as well. this will be the last time she ever moves.) or how to attach it and so he never used it. i immediately asked him if he knew if it was a snorkel adapter or not. i thought id seen one in my dreams before and he didnt know. alas! sure enough on my drive home googling, I saw a sign of a future turn .. and when i stopped looking at my gps, i realized it in fact was the snorkel adapter and that the pettiest of gods with base consumerist esteems, must want me to have a snorkel sometime in the not to distants. clearly.
until the day, i figured i'd use my snorkel adapter as a ram air scoop for that silly hole at the base of the sealed box. i had already bought a 2"cap for it so i ran a series of mini zip ties through it (aka tiny holes) and it plugs up the snorkel adapter just like in the air box. solution for high water, mud, or extreme dust. so i bought a 2" rubber coupler, stuck that sucker in between the adapter and the airbox, and it seems to be in there pretty firmly. at lease it'll better increase the chances of better directing the air making it in there instead of wafting hot air as with an open hole. this should do fine for now.
both guys who owned this before apparently kept the hole uncapped and wide open without any major consequences. there was lightly splashed of mud on the lower half of the box and a decent amount of dust everywhere. it came with the original power core filter the inside of it was as clean as new. the seller had said it for sure had over 100k on it and he'd recommend swapping it out. though it looked good enough, and im sure it would have been fine, im confident my new AEM filter was the way to go.
now about this maf gasket .. im considering using a series of washers in securing the plastic around the maf sensor to really get the sensor as tight as possible without the Volant gasket. maybe rtv around the outside when its screwed down. made a bracket for the horn but may just relocate it
EDIT: SNORKEL ADAPTER AS RAM SCOOP DOESN'T FIT
