Gen 3 is coming - anyone hear any buzz ? Anything you want to see on the NEXT Next Gen ? Here's my wish list:

1.) V8

2.) F/R Lockers, Standard (not plausible but it's a wish list)

3.) Armrest a little higher (my '02 was perfect, my '07 is too low)

4.) Non-scuffing interior!

5.) Better sounding standard audio system

6.) No more goofy, small, out-of-the-way storage spaces

OK I'll stop and give you guys a chance

I didn't. But it's an obvious eventuality.

I would hold my breath until 2010. They have a good thing going with the 2nd Gens and probably will hold onto this model for at least 6 years or more.

I didn't say random and stupid; I said goofy and out of the way. The bulge for one is a goofy idea to house a first aid kit. There has been bulges before; like a ferrari hood, for the delortos, but for a first aid kit ? kinda goofy. The closing roof bin ? I liked it before when you could use that space to actually bungie a sports bag up there. It's not an easy access either. And nuthing fits up there anyway. The space under the cargo area is ok but if you've got anything in your cargo area ita a hassle. Just MHO

Historically they've already had 2 redesigns (1 minor and 1 major) in less than 6 years!

Well that minor design change was to Gen 1, the major was the introduction of Gen 2. It's a pattern.

I heard were due for a refresh of the 2nd gen in 2009-2010 something like we got from 01-02. I dont think the powerplant will be replaced as I think they have a great one now.(Not everyone wants a V8). As far as things I would like:

1: Bullet proof differential
2: HID's
3: Heated seats
4: Optional Leather interior
5: (I know Nissan can't fix this but I can dream) MORE aftermarket support.

Yeah, X2 on all of those - Diesel is an interesting idea too

1. a standard rear locker on all models.
2. an alternator that doesn't sit so low in the engine bay.
3. a higher quality paint job

This thread is turning into a "things you dont like about your Gen II" thread...but I guess thats how it should be.

1. Better aftermarket. Get 'em involved early.
2. Coil suspension.
3. Stronger axles and diffs.
4. More additional packages (like optional lockers F/R). Optional packages keep overall price down.
5. Heated seats. If you have never had them, you won't understand
6. Rubber floors FJ-style. Because vacuuming mud out of the carpet sucks ass.
7. Horizontal rear gate.
8. Spare wheel on the rear gate.
9. Standard 285s (should fit without the BFH mod).
10. Optional Gobi-style roof rack.
11. Longer warranty.
12. Interior that does not scratch so easily.

This is my dirty dozen.

I could see the Xterra in two ways. Kind of like it is, but with much tougher differentials and t-case, but still cushy with IFS and similar interior

or..
solid axle front and rear with better approach and departure angles...Coils all around

I'd like to see FJ- like suspension travel, but if they just updated the drivetrain strength and went back to the more common nissan lug patter, that'd be great.

bring back the Atomic Orange color!!!! I wish mine was that color.... HMMMMM?!?!?!?! Maybe that could be my next mod!

How about an option to order the truck covered in a bedliner like material instead of paint?
