I have a question. We are all susposed to have a 21.1 gallon fuel tank correct? Or something close to that number of gallons. Anyways, it seems like everytime i drive and get low enough to have the low gas light come on, i go and fill it up and its never taken more than 16 or 17 gallons to fill the tank to the brim. The dealership told me that the light comes on with there still being 3 to 5 gallons of gas in the tank because the fuel is what is cooling the fuel pump. So..........anyone else have any thoughts on this one? Do i have something wrong with the sensors in my truck? Are the guys at my dealership retarded?

Wow you Americans have small tanks...my fuel tank is 80 litres :geek:

The light goes on with ~10 L in the tank...or 2.642 US Gallons left.

Having replaced a fuel pump prematurely on another make of vehicle, I don't recommend waiting for the light to come on. I used to always wait until the light came on...I was almost OCD about it, now I've seen it once or twice in the X.

When my light has come on it normally takes around 17-19 gallons. But I tend to fill up no lower the 1/4 tank most the time, so I've only seen the light maybe 2 or 3 times.

The only time I have seen my light was the day I got my X from The dealership. I fill once a week, I never drive enough during the week to run it completely down

if i'm not mistaken, my S model has a 19 gallon tank. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think I read in the owners mannual that the 21 gallon tank is optional. When my light comes on, it holds 16-17 gallons.

The dealership didn't give you a full tank when you drove it off the lot?
well it was kind of a difficult thing to get my X. I needed it the next day to drive to Washington D.C. The only X they had was 150 miles away so they had to drive and get it that afternoon. by the time they came back it was about 10 and the kid with the X didn't have any money for gas. so that is why they didn't fill it up.

later that week they did give me a full tank of gas and a detailed car wash. As I have said before, the dealership here is excellent

17.5 needed here to fill up when the light comes on. Almost like clockwork!

I see the same. The Scan Guage helps me milk a little more out while still being safe, but I don't tend to go too much beyond the light going on. It's nice to know that you could if you needed to.

I have both the 1st gen and 2nd gen ScanGauge (the 1st gen was moved to my Jeep).

http://www.scangauge.com

It's a great little tool. I always leave it on gauges and monitor my MPH (since I have larger tires I have it calibrated), Water Temp, Air Intake Temp and Voltage (I think the last three are the most important to keep an eye on when wheeling).

Oh, and here is a group buy for the gauge and the mount.
