I installed Mobile 1 5W-30 Full Synthetic motor oil and a Mobile 1 Extended Performance oil filter; now hoping for the best in the future.

Synthetic in older engines doesn't cause leaks. It exposes microscopic leaks that dino oil hides because it doesn't get in the nooks and crannies as well as synthetic does.
Thanks for the correct wording.

I switched to synthetic at 100k miles - no leaks whatsoever lol

The only way you would get a leak is if you already have seals going bad in the first place.

I switched to Mobile1 synthetic at 1500 miles. Even with synthetic I change about every 3k to 4k miles even though it's over kill. You can never change oil too quickly though.
1250miles here:)

I go 6k with a filter change at every 3k

Which ones are you guys using? The extended performance version or the regular full synthetic one?

Planning to pick this up from Walmart for my next oil change. Been using dino oil but going to switch over after reading this thread. I'm at 22K.

I switched to Amsoil Signature at 1200 miles (tossed break-in oil/filter)
Noticeable smoothness & performance right around 6,500 mi., changed
it again. Purolator syn. filter. Rinse & repeat every 7,500 from then on.

I use the bottom (silver) one.
After I do the "free" oil changes (next 18 months), then I'll probably switch over. No real reason other than being able to extend the time frame between changes...Usually can get a real good price on the stuff, so may as well.

As for actual intervals, I don't go strictly by mileage but rather how the oil looks and smells when I check it. Should get into the habit of checking regularly *just in case* there is ever an issue losing some, but one of those things I seem to put off.

Usually I'll make a little reminder sticker though using my label machine, with 3 mo/3k for reg. oil or 5 mo/5k for synthetic, so that way it makes me check the condition and put it into my mind that it may be time soon.

3 mo/3k miles is more of a marketing ploy and probably held more truth when the oils didn't have the additives they do now. It's just a shame they lost the zinc (bad for cat. converters) although you can get it still on the $$$ stuff...

On my turbo though, it gets changed every 2k or so and using full synthetic, plus I let it cool down (idle) for a minute before shutting down...the bearings still looked pretty new when I took it apart, so good insurance there in that case.
