I changed over at the 15k mark. So far so good, but just as I expected, I didn't notice any change in gas mileage or performance.

I changed over because I was use to spending $25 on an oil change (I never did it my self...not worth it). Once I got my Shrock bumper I wasn't about to let someone else do it as they would fill my front skid up with oil and not care. So I go to Sam's club, buy a case of Mobile 1 for about $26, ordered me a bunch of OEM filters from yourissanparts.com and change it every 5K. Been working out well for me...I just need to get rid of the old oil now.

How often are you suppose to change it with regular oil? I thought it was suppose to be 3000 miles, but on the slip I got from Nissan it said 3750.

Ah the age old question. With Dino oil I changed every 3K to 3.5K. With Synethic I will be changing every 5K-6K.

Nissan has some off number, I usually try to stick with a nice round number. It doesn't hurt to change it a bit early or even a bit late.

One thing that Nissan does not state is to change your oil (and filter) at about 1200-1500 miles on a brand new engine. There is so much junk in there as the engine first starts to break in. I changed mine at 1200 and it was black and had visible metal shavings in it. I then flushed it by filling up with cheap dino oil, running the engine until it got hot and then changed it again. I think changed the oil once more at 3000 miles. I kept with the dino oil and the 3k change until 15k when I changed over to Synthetic and the 5k intervals.

Haven't switched over yet, but will at 3k

Mustang, Altima, and 01 X were all switched over at 3k miles. Altima gets changed every 6k. 01 got changed every 6k as well.

Mustang only twice a year because I only put maybe 4k miles a year on it if that. Change in the fall and spring using the 15k mile extended Mobil 1.

Use a good quality filter such as the Mobil 1 filter as well.

edit: btw, I've seen motors that have been torn down that have used Mobil 1. They are clean as if they just left the factory.

I switched at 4k on the X, and thats plenty in my book. The old adage oof 10k applied to older engines with less tight tolerances.

If you are spending the $ for the mobil full syn, use it for up to 10k. If you dont believe me, see what mercedes master techs recommend, my AMG came with full syn from the factory and the cars self diagnostic "eye" doesnt call for an oil change until the 9k -11k mark. I still did it between 7-10k depending on what kind of miles I ran.

On the X, i think ill do mobil full syn every 6-7k
Getyour value out of the $$ mobil.

Switched my X at 3k miles to Mobil1, don't intend on using any other oil anytime soon.

Well my routine calls for a quick oil change right after a run such as ECXC. (Long time in woods) I brought mine to dealer next day and they complained about something being hot to do with the skids. And, let oil drip, no POUR into the skid, I drove home and even next day oil was seeping out onto my floor. I wonder if any got into the drain bucket? And still they charged me the environmental disposal fee! LOL

So, ya all have me convinced to do it myself.

BUT, I'm going to get one of the oil plugs that permanently goes in (Saves washers) and has a drain on it with a quick disconnect for a hose to lead the oil past the skids and into a drain pan. I used one on my Kenworth and it really made changes neat. I was worried about knocking it off on a 4X4 but with the skids, there is no way that's going to happen.

I was going to go with Ams Oil. But availability seems to be a real bear.
I want walk in shuck out my money Sams Club convenience.

As far as change interval, whew, I know you can do 7K pretty easy on Mobil 1. I'll get an analysis when I change mine at 5 and see what that says and report back. (Be a few months) But I expect it to say good for further service, up to 4K more.

You can't beat it for cold start ups in winter.

But, I really wanted more MPG. Looks like I am out of luck. I know Muzikman has a scan gauge and if he says no gain, there's no gain.

Any amount of oil we save, is a good thing now a days.

woah, you switched @ 101K miles and it stopped leaking?

I read that switching to syn oil may create leaks???

is 30K too late?

Got my X less than a month ago, I'm sure Nissan is still using dino oil for 30k svc that was done for certified pre sale?

I started using full synthetic at 28K which is when I bought it. Since I haven't used anything else in the car can't really compare, but as for leaks or anything like that I haven't noticed. When I changed out the spark plugs at 60K there was no oil residue anywhere I could see, and the plugs looked like they could have gone another 60K. I'll always use full synthetic for all my oils.

Synthetic in older engines doesn't cause leaks. It exposes microscopic leaks that dino oil hides because it doesn't get in the nooks and crannies as well as synthetic does.
