Well, yesterday I was heading up the highway after work. Traffic was a bit heavy, but it was still moving at 65mpg or so. I was a good 5 to 6 car length’s behind a utility truck. All of a sudden I see him swerve to the shoulder of the road then notice why. Someone with a small enclosed trailer must have had a blow out which took off the fender, which was now laying right in the middle of the left hand lane of a 3 lane highway. Needless to say I didn't feel comfortable swerving to miss it, so I hit it. It nearly took out the car behind me in the middle lane.
A few miles up the road I got off the highway and pulled into a gas station. Figuring I hit a nice sized chunk of metal at 65mph I should probably look at the X to make sure it's not banged up too bad. Well, what I found was that the metal didn't do any damage that I could see (thank god for Shrock front bumper and skid plates).
Now what I did find was my passenger side swaybar connector not connected. The nut was missing and the connector was just sitting there. I have no idea when this happened, but I really hadn't noticed any difference in handling. I also found that my rear diff cover is peeled back and I have seeping. I have not checked the fluid level yet, but I don't think any is really leaking out as I don't have any spots in the driveway.
I plan on running up to the hardware store and getting a new nut for the swaybar connector. Since I have almost 28K on the X, I plan on replacing the rear diff fluid at 30K. I was hoping someone would have a new beefier cover by then so I only have to take it off once, but I doubt that will happen in the next month or so.
Anyway, just thought I would share my adventure.
