Myself and a couple of buddies are headed to bald eagle state park in PA in November. Anybody been there and have any suggestions? Anybody interested in joining the trip? It’s just a weekend trip with eating and drinking.

I’ve been there a few times. Are you looking to hike? There’s not too many trails in the park but a few decent short ones. Like the Skyline Dr, Lakeside and Woapalanne trails. The park is mostly used for boating and fishing so I imagine it might be quiet out there in November.

Bald Eagle State Park has no trails open to vehicles. Bald Eagle State Forest does! There’s a few open 4wd roads/trails in the State Forest. I haven’t been on any of them. But I’ve been out to the State Parks in that area (Poe Valley, Poe Paddy, RB Winter) to hike and spent a good bit of time exploring the gravel/dirt roads. There’s a lot to see out there.

Bald Eagle State Park is at least 45 mins away from the State Forest. Not sure if you’ll mind the drive but if you’re looking to be closer to the action you might want to consider camping at the other parks I mentioned above.

This is a thread I found a while back from someone who did a multi-day trip in the State Forest. Might be helpful to you. I’ve been wanting to try some of the trails they mentioned but haven’t had the chance yet.

oh.. and definitely pickup a map before you go to the State Forest (if you do). I don’t usually have service there so you’ll need it. Purple Lizard maps are great to use but a free DCNR one will do as well.

I spent a couple of days driving the forest roads and "drivable trails" in Bald Eagle State Forest back at the end of August. The aforementioned Purple Lizard and DCNR maps are good to have on hand. A lot of the forest is without cell coverage, so if you're using Gaia GPS or something similar be sure to download your map tiles in advance.

The drivable trails are not technical, but rocky enough that you may want to air down. The rest of the forest roads are in good condition other than the occasional small tree or branch that you may need to move if there was a recent storm. Most of the overlooks/vistas are very pretty and you may not see another car/truck all day once off pavement. Enjoy!

That’s awesome, thanks for all the input. I talked with my buddy and he said the purple lizard maps are sold out, but he has found others. Looking forward to the trip and if anyone wants to meet up more than welcome!
