Searched every thread on multiple forums on this code and they always seems to die out without any updates.

I have replaced the vvt solenoids and that did not fix it. It ran fine but now starting to run a lil rough so trying to be proactive on the code,
I am about to replace my chains, sprockets, seals etcc…but I kind of want confirmation someone has done this and the code went away? I came across some posts where people replaced everything and it did nothing.

thanks I got a 2010 4l around 160k miles

yeaa I came across this thread actually on my deep search a while ago 😅, I think my timing chains and all that are original. after comming across your post few days ago I took off that vvt cover that hides the sprocket and it looks perfect and it was the original fiber disc so i don’t believe it’s that.

however if go through with my timing chain job I would prolly change that part too

If it's the gallery cover gasket, you could test that by performing an oil pressure test at idle with the engine warmed up and comparing to the service manual spec. If the pressure is too low, the most likely cause on these engines is a blown gallery gasket, assuming the engine isn't badly sludged and the pick-up screen isn't clogged. A bad oil pan "could" cause that as well, but it's not common for a Nissan VQ oil pump to have issues.

The other "easily" accessed electrical part of the system is the camshaft position sensor. Are you running original / hitachi?
Only other recommendation is to go through the diagnostics in the FSM step by step.
Do you have reason to believe the timing chains or guides are worn? I thought that was solved by 2010.

2010 was affected; it was the last year of the chain problems. But, the chain issues coincide with the loud, whining noise as the chain(s) cut through the plastic chain tensioner face(s). If the noise doesn't exist, the chains are likely to be fine and not the cause of the issue.

thanks everyone. I potentially fixed this by putting black RTV on the VVT solenoid as well as cleaning out the VVT solenoids ground wire, which was a little bit corroded my "main thread" on clubfrontier if anyone comes across this on a google search, visit my thread to see my diagnostics efforts, or shoot me a message. I posted this in both forums since it was giving me trouble for a while.

I think this fixed it since the code was a pending before doing the two, then it cleared itself, and looking at bank data via scan tool it is way different. It has never cleared it self, and usually will go from pending to confirmed in one drive cycle, 10 warm up cycles later and it has not came back. hoping i am done with this.
