When in Nuetral, and I put the t-case into 4lo, I can hear a click, click, click, then the 4lo light finishes blinking.

Is this normal? I have a 2006 4WD S.

That's what I hear. It scared my wife first time she heard it. There are some hefty gears getting moved around in there.

Anyone else? I was surprised tonight when I used 4lo for the first time. Then I thought I might have done something, since I didn't shift into N when I turned the switch.

I only hear one click. nothing that sounds scary though. It sounded pretty normal. Almost the same as shifting from park into gear (i have an automatic)

normal, i think the manual even states this so people dont get freaked out and post on internet forums

Yup it is perfectly normal to get a couple of clicking sounds when shifting into and out of 4-lo. Nothing to really worry about.

I never got into 4lo the first time, because I wasn't in N. So, I drove like that for a few feet, forward and back, and realized I was still in the high range, with the 4lo blinking.

So, I put it in N, then shifted, and heard the clicks, and hoped I didn't bung anything up.

You shouldn't have caused any significant problem. They are pretty strong as long as you didn't try to drive for miles and you were only going forward and backwards for a couple of feet.

If you flip it into 4lo without putting it in neutral you will not cause any harm at all as it won't even try and change the gears.

Out now. I was in for a little over 6 yr. In Gulf War 1 on the USS Forrestal then on a frigate (USS Curts) sitting in the Red Sea and P Gulf most of the time. I posted in "Calling all military".

Honestly, i have to agree with you there. e.g. i have a 6sp. The auto makers like the lesser liability of the new fangled stuff though.

Congrats! :rockin: i was mighty happy when i got out. i wasn't cut out to be a lifer. Though it would have been nice to retire in 3 years.
