Well driving home from Raush last night my diff lock light popped on with the VDC off light. I have had this happen before and after starting and stoping it would go away.

Well for the 2+ hour ride home it was just going on/off. The last 30 minutes nothing. Urrr. I thinking either a short in the wiring or dirty connectors.

out of all the post i have read about this you would think someone somewhere would have found the true answer.

With these lights on, is everything still functioning correctly?

I am sure the gremlins will get me at some point

No, with those lights on the VDC system is not working, hense causing a potential safety problem. I too would have thought Nissan would have gotten to the bottom of this one by now. Mine does it every couple of weeks, but it does not throw a code and by the time I can get it to the dealership (The Next Day) the lights have gone off on their own.

Yesterday when it happened to me, something very strange occured.
I was driving at no more than 10mph (parking lot). When I stoped in a spot and jumped out, I noticed there was a mild skid mark trailing from ONE of my rear tires. I was pretty pissed and worried all at once. I know for sure that this skid mark was from MY truck to because the tire tread/skid pattern matched 100% perfectly and it ended precicely where my tire stoped.

I'm pretty pissed off that it's malfunctioning to the point that it'd cause something like that. I have no idea why it'd apply that much braking power to one rear wheel at 10mph, on perfectly dry/clean pavement.

You might be wondering inside your head if there was something I did to cause it to slip or skid... like maybe gas it for a second, or hit the brakes too hard... no F'in way. I was driving like a grandma.

Hmmm. I am going to have to jack up my X and see if my locker is still engaged or not. No lights since Sunday.

I read somewhere that the lights can come on if you are parked with 1 wheel higher than the others, or if you are steering to one side when you start the engine. It runs a test of the VDC system when you fire up the engine and if it detects something abnormal then it shuts it down - Which is when the lights come on.

This only seems to happen when I'm parked outside my house, which often means I am parked with 1 or 2 weels on the curb. Plus, as I live in a corner lot, my wheells are almost always turned while parked as I have to turn to park in front of my corner house.

So maybe that is why it happens for me quite regularly and others not so much.

Mine happened while driving down route 80 at 75 mph. The lights would be on for 10 or so minutes. Then off and on, etc....

Was this after wheeling? Did they both come on and go off at the same time?

I wonder if you had water/dirt in the connectors.
Yes and Yes and my thoughts exactly. I unplugged the diff indicator connector once I got home and cleaned it off with a paper towel.

No, and yes.

This occured right off the lot, before the tires even saw dirt.

When this problem occurs, the slip light appears to be in unison with the VDC Off light.
