Checked out your post on the other site...looks good. Like your friends over there said, let's have a sound clip. Which muffler did you get (Model or Part #)? You mentioned the Flowmaster was too loud on your other truck, but someone put up that link to the Diamond Plate Flowmaster and that muffler looks tough! Might be a good replacement also if it doesn't drone like the one you described. Know what you mean: had a stinger on my Porsche 914-6, and the buzz would drive you nuts. Went back to stock. Don't want to lay out for the custom pipe work only to find I can't live with the replacement muffler.

I was worried about revisiting the drone issue. Thankfully, the Magnaflow does not drone like the Flowmaster. The Magnaflow Wide Open is a bit louder than the Gibson during acceleration but it quites down nicely at cruising speeds. Here's a shot of it with some other toys that I recently put together:

The fellow who did the install was great. It took him 90 mins. to do the entire job and he barely got his hands dirty. I watched in awe.

Tip my hat again to Shorty's Garage!

Here's the link to the site where I purchased my Magnaflow. This is the model I ordered.

Just so you know, this is a performance muffler and it sounds like it. There's a slight rasp to it now because it's new but she'll mellow after I burn a full tank of gas. Even new, you get a deep rumble at idle and a nice growl when you get on the gas. NO RICE IN THIS THING. Still, don't expect our 4.0L V6 to have the same harmonics as a small block V8.

I've had both the flowmaster and the magnaflow on my Z28. The flowmasters suck! Not only do they drone like crazy, but they rust in a hurry. So you can call 'em rustmaster or dronemaster, your choice.

I got the Magnaflow catback system later on. It was amazing. It was so nice to be able to cruise down the highway and hear myself think for a change. But give it the gas, and it wakes up and screams.

I got the exhaust done on my X 2 weeks ago. Changed the Y-pipe out and the piping to the muffler but left the stock tail pipe. The exhaust shop (Ogden Muffler) let me test out 3 different mufflers. A Flowmaster, which was to loud for my liking. A DynoMax, which was the quietest of the 3 but also pinch welded like those cheap-o mufflers. And a Magnaflow, which sounded decent and also has a lifetime warranty. I drove to Las Vegas the day after I had the exhaust done. The first trip from Ogden to Cedar City was loud and a little annoying. After a fill up I continued to Las Vegas, and the exhaust sounded deeper and didnt drone as much.
I have noticed better throttle response by changing out the y-pipe. Gas mileage is relatively the same in the city and on the freeway... havent notice much difference. People have said that it sounds aggressive and a lot better. Others say it is to loud. Either way, I like it. I had a Flowmaster 40 Series on a Cherokee and it took about 5000 miles to get the right tone.

But I have a question... when I was under the vehicle I noticed what appeared to be resonators after the cats. When they pulled the piping off, they were cats, after the other cats. So I have 4 cats. The O2 sensors are located between the two, and before the front ones so I dont see a point in having these. Ogden Muffler told me I cannot remove those because of emission laws. Has anyone else noticed this?

Well I liked the way this set up in the frame higher, but it sounded like crap. Can't remember what it was Dynomax? Anyways I had them on other vehicles and it sounded great. Not the X. I don't recall 4 Cats on mine. MC

Here's a picture of the Flowmaster 50 that I ran on my Ranger 4.0L. It was a terrible injustice to that engine. I really regretted having that thing installed. I began to dread driving it because of the relentless drone. Had I not traded the Ranger for the X, I would have trashed that muffler for something else.

In the description of your Magnaflow, it shows single inlet-double outlet. Did you mount it backwards?

I want to do this! next!
if i were to buy this muffler and take it to a shop, what should i tell the guy?
just fab up a catback system with this muffler?

whats the deal with the Y pipe? does that need to be replaced?

and is it possible to get a decent looking tail pipe? (i dont do a lot of hardcore off roading)

I really want duels, but from my understanding, its next to impossible with the spare.

You definitely want to replace the OEM y-pipe.

Yep and either get the 12268 or the 12258. Doesn't really matter. Peeps on Sleazebay have these for $75 with best offer and free shipping.
I love mine + it's SS so it will outlast the Rustmasters. No loud drone and when you step on it with a CAI it sounds great.
