clunk goes the X

Heya,

So my 2005 OR Auto is making a clunk in the front (I think it is the front) when I make a turn. Anyone else have this prob and were you able to get it fixed? There is a TSB 06056 that seems to sort of fit the bill, but I do not have to be in 4X4 when I hear it on a turn.

Also, while I am complaining...anyone have a squeeky hood?

Thanks in advance...regular programming will continue in 3, 2.........

If you have a 4X4 then that is the TSB you are looking for. Fast fix.
It's just a matter of re working things a little.

Adjust the hood stoppers on each side, turn them loose one turn at a time until hood gets tight. (They are the little rubber bump stops inside the hood towards the front on left and right.) MC

Cool, thanks MC. It is a 4X4. I misunderstood the TSB a bit, thinking it meant if it clunked "in" 4X4, not that it is a 4X4.

Would my Schrockworks bumper cause any of the issues described in the TSB...due to the extra weight?

Thanks again.

i have a squeaking sound from my right forward wheel well while im turning
Na I don't think the shrockworks would do it, it's a clunk that is solid mount related not anything to do with sprung part. You can follow the TSB yourself and fix it or take it in.

For the guy with the squeak. A blast of WD 40 around there won't hurt. I did the top of my Springs once and that fixed it. Although are you sure? It can also be the front stabilizer Bar. I also had that squeaking and fixed it with a lube job after taking off the bushings and putting on some rubber safe lube. Worked great, but it did not work for someone else.

These nasty squeaks! I hate em all and I can't rest until I get rid of them.

Do you just loosen the bolt, then push up on the pinion side of the diff to rotate it?

Thanks,

How do you know it's the hood? I have a squeaking noise in the front when I'm driving a bumpy road. It's annoying. I'm under the impression that it's the suspension.
I think I have the same problem. I think it is my hood. When I go over bumps it squeaks pretty loud, but I can't seem to push on the hood to get it to make the noise. Someone said they turned the "hood stops" to adjust the squeak out, but I don't see any adjusters.
I can SOMETIMES reproduce it by pushing on it...it's definitely the hood. The only solution I've read is to put some of those pads that go under furniture legs, stick 'em where the hood bumps rest. It helped w/mine a little but it came back. Then one disappeared...I need to find some more. Other than that, I haven't sat there and tried to pinpoint it...but it seems to come from the front, NOT from the hinges.

It is kind of a funny story...the squeak happend two days after I bought the used 2005...didn't happen before. I have the Shrocks bumper and thought...crap...this will be a pain to isolate. Then I got out and shut the door and hear the squeak. I got up on my slider and bounced several smaller bounces and voila...I could hear it. I got my son and had him do the slider bounce while I put my ear next to the front of the hood and could hear it there. I was at the Nissan dealership a few days later to pick up a spare key and couldn't reproduce the squeak for them, but we sprayed the latch with white lithium grease and the spot where the rubber pads touched and it went away...for a few weeks...then it came back. On my truck it seems to be the hood. I sprayed the latch again, then wiped off the rad support contact points and so far so good. I also took USMC's advice and twisted the rubber pads on each side down a turn and will see if that nails it.
Hmm, I think I've heard that squeak when I've closed the door, too. I'll check this morning when I go out.
UPDATE: Well, the squeak I had was coming from the hood latch. I went to the dealer yesterday, and took one of their techs out for a ride with me. I mentioned that I had read here on the forum that it could be the hood. Thankfully, he heard the squeak, and said that it was the hood latch. He also said that it has happened before on the Frontier. So, he took it in, greased up the latch, and the squeak is now gone.
Clunk update. I meant to post this sooner. The clunk ended up being a slightly loose (not so much to the wiggle) front sway bar. Re-torqued the bolts and it seems to be gone. The diff adjustment was in spec, so had to keep digging.
Oh, when mine was loose it was a creak. Lube and re tighten. MC
