About a month ago my check engine light went on. I went to Autozone and the code read Park/Neutral Switch. I thought that it was strange because I have a manual transmission. I paid the dealer $50 to check it out since my '06 OR is at 40K and they found nothing wrong. They called it a "malfunction"... Basically I paid them to turn it off. It just came on again and I went to Autozone and they read "Park/Neutral Switch"!!! Any ideas?? Autozone won't turn it off and I tried the reset on the "how to's" and it didn't work. I don't really feel like paying my dealer $50 every two weeks. Please help! HELP ME!!! Thanks in advance.

I'd call the dealer and tell them they didn't fix the problem the first time and to do it right now. (with no charge)

the sensor is almost on top of the trans on the passenger side. It could be that there is something wedged up there or similar.

As far as why its there, its for the cruise control so it knows when your in neural it wont turn on. Other systems may use it (I'm going to try to use it for remote start but thats a future mod) but I'm not too sure off the top of my head.

Take a look at the links for the wiring.
