6. Where did you purchase this battery?: 4Wheelparts
7. Price?: $229 total (purchased during a no sales tax promo)
8. Your overall satisfaction with the battery so far on a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the best battery you've ever owned: 9/10
9. Approximately what was the date of purchase? 08/2016

Previous 2 stock batteries lasted me 45 and 18 months, respectively, not very impressed. The last one started to die on a long road trip this summer with lots of camping and heavy usage of a 50Qt ARB fridge/freezer. I'm hoping this will last longer and perform better. Also gives me more capacity and flexibility to add additional accessories in the future.

A. Has your battery failed? Yes, became apparent during a cold snap in Feb 2021
B. How old was the battery? 4 1/2 years
C. What climate do you live in? Central Texas (hot humid) for 1 1/2 yrs, northern Utah 1 1/2 yrs, DC metro (mid-Atlantic) 1 1/2 yrs
D. Was it replaced under warranty? no
E. Would you buy this battery again? yes

Final thoughts: the battery is no longer holding enough charge to start up in cold weather after sitting for more than a day, so I've been having to boost with a charger about every other day while I wait for a replacement ($295) to ship. Didn't get quite as much life as I was hoping for out of it, but lasted longer than any of the previous batteries I had, and with more use (i.e. camping with a fridge, 100+ heat, and single digits in the winter, little garage time). I probably should have been better about throwing it on the charger periodically.

Just FYI Yellow top update. Left the LED lights on didn't realize till returning to the X 8 hours later since 7:00 am this morning. It turned right on no problem. Left on the three 4inch round LEDs mounted on the bumper. Thanks Optima!!

The EverStart MAXX is made by the same people as the Autozone Gold's and I've always had good luck with those. So far it's been good.

I picked up this sucker today. I had a 10% off and $30 mail rebate. I've only put 1500 miles on my Xterra so far but could tell it struggled too much when the AC would click on. I use this same battery in our work trucks and it has saved me so much work and hassle. Glad to have one in the X

I'm wondering, are you guys replacing batteries because the original failed, showed signs of failing, or just because?
My car is reaching 70k miles and still on original battery. It's been through -20F to 125F weather and haven't had trouble starting, just some corrosion on the terminals.

I pulled my OEM flooded battery because I wheel and the thing was flinging battery acid everywhere. Had to go AGM.

My practice has been to replace batteries when they show signs of failure rather than at some predetermined date. The only exception was when I replaced a conventional lead acid battery in my jeep with an AGM battery. I have not had any leakage issues with my current Interstate lead acid battery from Costco and I do wheel my rig.

Mine was around 70k and was showing signs, like the shudder when the AC would click on, I had Batteries Plus test the system and they confirmed I had a bad battery. This was after I purchased the battery so there was no reason to fudge the results.

Also, I love having a very capable battery.

Since the X is the vehicle I use when the winter weather hits in the NE, my 5 yr/lead acid/$100 Walmart battery is at the 5 yr mark, and I could be away from home, why risk catching hell from the wife? (lol/not)

Speaking of battery issues, my son had an expensive 2yr old Agm in his car and killed it by draining it twice (left lights on). Wouldn't even take a 100 amp jump.

Optima Yellow Top
Bought 12/27/14
Failed 12/17/16
At least Advance Auto Parts honored the 3 year free replacement warranty no questions asked.
I bought this 2 years ago hoping that a battery of this reputation would last, and that the quality issues I'd heard about were resolved. In my case, obviously not. A free replacement with no hassle was cool, but the next time I'm paying for it, I'll get something else.

On a side note, both times I've needed a battery in December have come during bitter cold snaps, and both times I've gone to Advance Auto. They advertise free battery installation, and in my case have had to do it in very cold conditions (<10 F) twice, so at least kudos to them for honoring the warranty and installation promise.

I always change a battery when I notice it's taking longer to crank to start as insurance to not get stuck having to bum for a boost (screw that). The original 550CCA battery had been in the truck for 4 years as it was OEM when I bought it used so it has lasted a while. Though if I wheeled heavy rocks a lot I'd have got an AGM but as I don't go that extreme a lead-acid is fine for my needs.
