Interesting. I received a letter from Nissan that they would like to inspect and collect data from my X for about 3 weeks. If I agree to the inspection, they will give me a loaner, $100, oil change, full gas tank, and wash. Sounds like it might be worth the inconvenience if they don't total my truck. They only put about 8 miles of normal driving per day on the truck (indoors).

My suggestion would be to ask them to "transfer" your request to one of the people on this site who has had (and continues to have?) the problem where the VDC/SLIP/ABS/etc lights 'come on for no reason'.

Maybe if they 'collect data' from that type of vehicle they will see the problem while they have the vehicle, and come up with a fix. That would benefit all Xterra owners!

what could you possibly gain from this? Maybe they will put a gps/data event logger.

maybe they will find out about the time you tried to go 115 mph and void your warranty.

maybe they will reflash your engine to a different program that makes 5 horsepower less.

I'd change your own oil and tell them to research their own fleet vehicles.

I'm with mike100 on this... Why are they wanting to inspect your vehicle anyway?

Seems like mike100 is being a little paranoid, but I guess since I agree, I am too... seems fishy... then again, I don't see why Nissan would randomly pick someone, and ask to use their Nissan...

What if they're using your Xterra for a test vehicle... to try and fix a bug or something that's not all that common in them yet...

this could get deeper and deeper... I'm tired....

That's a scam, the day you are scheduled to take it in, about the time you leave the house the rep calls and says he can't make the dealer and he will meet you in the wal mart parking lot. He has all the paperwork and we can just do the switch there..... You meet, he gives you the "Loaner" and takes your X with your plates for three weeks. Seems odd he kinda looks like you. Then over the next several weeks there are a rash of bank robbery's using your X as a get away vehicle, you are none the wiser until you get pulled over for driving a stolen vehicle. Once the cops hear your story they know you been had and send you to your insurance company where you find you get 12K for your stolen X that was worth 17K Then in about three weeks they send someone else a letter and use your X as the "Loaner"

Not really..... I hope, but it sounded good huh? Be weary of a deal like that. MC

I personally would not do it with out a lot of assurance in writing if something happens to your X.

I would want to know who is responsible if something happens to your ride? Mechanical or Body damage? I would want it in writing and would also check with my insurance agent if you decide to go ahead.

I do not see much to be gained by doing this.

They prob wouldn't want me X anyway, since I only have 5000 miles on it and larger than stock wheels. And since I can't stand having my vehicle at a repair facility or dealership for a minute for fear of it being f-ed up (which it often is), I doubt if I could handle 3 weeks. The letter says the program is to inspect engine status, powertrain, and emissions at the Nissan Technical Center. I assume they are just sending this out to some owners near their facility.

Even though some of the things mentioned are kind of out there, I really do think they will monkey around with your ecm and give it a reflash (probably for the worse, performance-wise).

Ford has done it with their diesels. In CA, they would not renew your registration on 6 liter powerstrokes unless you went back to ford to get reflashed to a doggier, but cleaner tune. That is complete BS and I think nissan is a little better than ford, but in that case I thought you were buying emission certified vehicles and would be pissed about a reflash..you own the software. Of course the PRK (peoples republic of kali) is a special socialistic case and you shouldnt expect common sense and property rights to be prominent here.

like i said..tell them to find a sucka somewhere else..or dig a little further to see what they are up to.
