My steering wheel medallion ('08 X) snapped off some time ago, and there are little pieces inside the wheel - the two plastic nubs from the medallion, and what looks like a metal disc that are all just in there loose.

I explained what happened to the dealership, and they said they'd have to replace the whole airbag just to replace the medallion, and so recommended against it because it would be expensive (yes I know, I left my jaw on the floor there) but said shouldn't be a safety issue because the medallion is designed to break off if deployed.

Likewise, the car passed safety inspection, but I've got a nagging feeling that I've got potential shrapnel in my face with that stuff in there.

Is it worth replacing the airbag, or is this a non-issue? Want to be doubly sure now that my wife is driving it.

In that case I would be tempted to either disassemble my airbag once it was removed or hot glue the emblem to the pad and forget it

If it were me, I would hope to find a medallion for $6 (maybe you get lucky on eBay), some 2-sided tape, slap it on and never think about it again

Hot glue for the win. It then will still breakaway as per designed by Takataum in the face with shrapnel. It's only an eye that's what Aflac is for. Rub some dirt on it and keep it moving. My grandfather in WW2 couldn't worry what was around the corner for danger. Glue it and forget about it. You will be fine. Hell the real goal is not wrecking your vehicle anyways. Drive safer and put the phone down. No texting and driving.

I checked mine for the recall and apparently they are still working on the fix for the problem.

They are gonna issue a generic airbag cover that just says Nissan. No emblem just the script into the material that way nothing can blast you in the face. That's my best guess. Most all other manufacturers don't have an emblem, but their name written into the rubberized material.

My cheesburger broke a while back. To be honest I am not looking forward to having the dealer mess with my truck. I know the airbag pops out pretty easy but I can totally see them messing something up then saying it was coincidence.

Maybe I can buy the new cover myself eventually.

I can't picture Nissan selling the airbag cover separately, ever. Being a safety-related item and the liability involved, along with the way Nissan uses modulation of parts, I can only see them selling it as part of the air bad module in the future.

I got the recall notice mailed to me for my 2006 Pathfinder, yesterday. They say a fix will be coming this fall.

This affects more then the 08 and up. My 07 Offroad is on the recall list if I enter my VIN into the system check. Right at the bottom of the recall info is also Takata. Sounds like emblem and maybe the glass lined airbag. The last parts just rumor don't take it to the face value.

That's good to know because my airbag just started the rapid fire flash dance today. Hope they have a fix soon. If not 07 Manual on the auction block. She is such a gas eating pig. 🤣🤣🤣
