The older steering wheel controls have 4 buttons, mine has 5.

TOP is volume

MIDDLE is bluetooth connect and hangup

Bottom id MODE on left, track up down on right.

It's a totally different button config.

I wonder. Hmmmm.

Im gonna need an OEM Nissan Wire Harness OR diagram to build an indentical harness, I just know it.

I'm gonna check the junkyards for a crashed 2015. I think the 2014 is the older illuminated buttons.

I don't wanna repin. Grrrrrrr. I admit Im not very good at that.

5? Ah you are in unchartered territory man.

I only know about 4. Take a look at the wires inside the steering wheel and see how they relate to the diagram for 4 - what the colors are and the locations. There's a possibility that 5th button may just be resistance based and the wiring is the same as that listed through this thread.

Yeah that's where the issue is, I have a 5th button lol. So in order to do this right I think Im gonna have to getthe factory wiring harness from the steering column up to the radio OR will have to fabricate one if I can get a diagram from Nissan, and the lsteering wheel column plugs which I should be able to get at a junkyard. Since the plug is going to be repinned that part's the easy thing to obtain.

I see the 4 button versions people have bought. Honestly though I wanted Bluetooth functionality and illumination. Those were the biggies, Illumination even more so.

What Im gonna do is this.......

Axxess has an app you run on your phone or tablet, that conencts directly to the axxess brain to reprogram buttons once your device is recognized. TOTAL customization. So I think Im might just buy the 4 button illuminated versions and see what happens with them.

IDK dude, lol, it's all decisions decisions lol. I GREATLY appreciate your help though. I would bet you anything if I get the illuminated 4 button it'll work and I jut have to run wiring for the illumination taking virtually no time at all

I go the controls all set, thanks to this thread and a couple other ones, I just need the switch pinout to complete it all>

Do you have pics that you could send me? I am trying to do this to my Xterra. I was able to get the 8 pin connector re pinned. I am now trying to figure out the steering column piece and pictures would be very helpful.

Thanks!

I just gave up today. I have the harness repined and followed the instructions. I was unable to get the PAC SWI RC to program though. I know that it was hooked up correctly though. Red to 12+ accessory and black to ground. I am sure that there is something really stupid that I am missing but after several days I just can't anymore. I still need to reset the airbag as the light is blinking. If you find someone that has pics and such please let me know.

I have a new leather steering wheel with illuminated controls sitting. I am going to get a new clockspring that has room for 8 wires. The more I read this thread the more confused I get. There is so much back and forth. Really wish it could be consolidated down. What your plug behind the airbag should look like and what the plug below the stereo should look like....

I think one of the biggest issues in this entire thread is trying to describe all the wiring with words. It's far easier to understand when looking at a schematic vs a picture of wires.
That said, do yourself a huge favor and get the factory service manual for your year and actually look at the wiring schematic and learn how to understand the pinout diagrams and wire color codes- which is described in the fwd section. If you can, verify the connections between the steering wheel and under-column connector with a multimeter so you feel confident about your connections.
Then you can figure out what wires need to change and be added and you won't get confused by 100 people trying to describe it in words and mess something up.
There are too many model years where wiring and colors change so it's easiest to do the legwork yourself, otherwise you will go to do it, find your wires are different and be frustrated and have to work it out yourself anyway.

Ok So I have a new clockspring with room for 8 pins, new steering wheel with illuminated controls. What should the repins look like? Are there any pictures? of a completed harness and what goes where?

Is there anyone in the San Antonio area or surround that knows how to add the illuminated controls? I have been reading this for a while still don't feel confident that I will get it right. I have the new controls, and clock spring. Willing to pay.

Hi all, I am new here. My Canadian 2011 SV does not have the illuminated controls. After reading through 32 pages I feel like I am a bit confused. Can you please give me a hand? Thanks in advance.

I have RF sound system with phone Bluetooth, what is the part number for the plug and play illuminated controls for my car?

Problem is, none of it is plug n play.

With illuminated controls, I believe you need to share the ground wire with the cruise control buttons.

I only installed the non-illuminated version on my Xterra and Frontier.

Hmmm I wonder if I might have a similar issue with having the standard "X" controls?

Sorry guys to add my name to the list here...but seeking out some guidance.

I have a 2012 Nissan "S" Xterra (although it states this in my profile) and it comes with the basic integrated cd/radio.

Here is what I am getting done...

1. Pioneer AVH DVD display head unit
2. PAC routed to accept steering wheel controls with soldered resistors
3. I have the part# 25550-ZS51A that is the dedicated dual wheel controls assembly for the 2012 Xterra

The issue I am having is the installing audio shop does not have liability for messing with airbags and from what they researched on this thread, looks like they would have to unplug the sensor to do so. Because of this, they will set up the PAC as if it will be getting wired from the stock controls...but my question is if I get it where the PAC is ready to go and just requires inputs from OEM 25550-ZS51A plug...then I just need guidance of what to do from there.

My assumption is that I will need to route a ground and another power lead somewhere? Anyone that can provide any explanation in any capacity would be greatly appreciated. I doubt it, but it would be great if the X was set up for dual steering controls from the factory and was simply limited at the steering control plug? I know for the fog lights, my X had the plugs and stuff ready for it and simply needed a new light control wand in the steering column which was plug and play.

Wasn't sure whether to bump a dead thread or make a new one, so here goes:

Got a 2013 Xterra, X model, factory LCD head unit (no NAV/GPS). Has illuminated cruise and no audio controls. Wanting to add audio controls. Found part #25550-ZS50C from the pathy is likely the same set of controls as in my X (since it appears the cruise and audio are linked in the same harness). The newer model Xterras all had audio and bluetooth, but since my head unit isn't bluetooth-supported, the pathy switches may make more sense over just getting the correct Xterra switches where there will be controls that are not supported that could complicate the wiring or cause it to not work at all. However, the pathy stopped in 2012, and Nissan updated the Xterra in 2013 in some odd ways (my new foglight headlight stalk for example doesn't fit) and I don't want to buy the wrong part.

What I have:

I posted some pics, but I have an 8 pin gray plug that is right next to the airbag plug under the steering wheel, by the height adjuster that has 5 wires going into it (red, black, white, cream and gray).

I also have an 8 pin white plug that is mounted a few inches away towards the drivers door, that has 6 wires coming out from the steering wheel spiral (red/gray, black/gray, yellow, brown, blue/gray, green/gray) which heads into a connector

I am unsure which 8 pin plug will get repinned if need be? I could try matching up what I have with wiring diagrams on the first page to figure it out though

(edit: it seems my original wiring colors did not match up to what was posted)

Is there a chance this entire thing will just be plug and play given the newer model year had illumination standard and audio controls as an option on the non-RF head units?

I was advised to just buy the controls, and see if maybe it all just is plug n play, and then go from there. Good advice, but I'm not sure which controls I should actually buy, and I'd like to have a plan or gain some more knowledge ahead of time. Hoping someone has been down this road with the newer model years.

Thanks to anyone who can help!

edit: this may be the harness that I need. The standard illuminated Xterra '13-'15 switches, also used on Frontier '13-'18

The pins are held in place by little tabs. There are tools available that look like small metal straws. The straw goes over the end of the pin and depresses the tab so the pin can be pulled out from the wire connected side. Then the pin is simply inserted to a different pinhole.
