Hey everyone...

I have a 2006 Xterra SE 4 wheel drive that has been lifted per the OME kit with 33" tires. Owned it since new. Been through all the standard issues... radiator replacement (preemptively done to not get a pink milkshake), chain guide replacement, transfer case drive seal, fuel tank level sender replacement, window regulators, etc etc.

Overall, I can say I have been extremely happy with the Xterra's performance and longevity. I was looking at 4runners and FJ Cruisers at the time. Picked the Xterra due to the Gen1 and Frontier lineage and the fact that I got a very good deal. Now 17 years later, the Xterra is still going strong.

Now an occasional vehicle for me, and I am interested in economically updating it to be more off-road capable. The 33s and OME setup was a good first step, but we all know much more can be done.

I usually poked into the old website regularly, but have not been very active since the site was updated years ago. Planning to be more active now.

Located in the south San Francisco Bay Area.

114k miles. Low for a 2nd year Gen2. It was often not my primary vehicle. Has been on some longer trips up and down California and out to Utah, but it has also done a ton of short commuting. In my opinion, that just adds to my belief of how reliable these vehicles are day in and out.

Will take some pics, but really nothing fancy to show. I can document the OME setup, though it’s been done dozens of times in the forums. For a mild suspension lift and ability to run 33s, I fully recommended the OME medium setup if you want some lift and remain mostly stock overall. A great budget friendly way to go.

I have 102k on a 2005, like you this isn't my only vehicle and now with no commute to work I put very few miles on per year. I have driven many times up and back between SF and LA, I have a S-Class Mercedes but I still like sitting high up on I5 and don't care as much about all the bugs I kill. I have OME rear with Bilstein 5100 all around, replaced front springs when I did the shocks under and extended warranty.

My push to the OME setup was triggered by the unacceptable tiredness in the rear leaf stock suspension. On mild speed bumps, I was hitting my rear bump stops with people in the back seats. Considered a helper leaf, but decided on the full OME setup for the other benefits. I have been very happy with it.

I am planning to keep the Xterra until the wheels come off. Older pre-2009 models are not getting a lot of love in the market, and my insurance is stupid cheap. Will likely start looking at some of fun major mods like full Titan swaps and, if I'm feeling ambitious, a VK swap. Too busy to entertain that at the moment, but really want to do more serious trail adventures and overlanding in the future.
