5th gear

I feel like I never use 5th. Most of the time accelerating onto the freeway, I am doing 60 - 65 in 4th and just drop it to 6th and keep cruising. Anyone else with a 6spd that barely uses 5th?

Also does yours give a little growl when you push in the clutch to change gears?

I rarely use 6th, unless I'm up to 70mph on the freeway. I seem to get better gas mileage keeping her in the 2000 to 3000 rpm band, rather than dropping below 2k RPM in 6th.
I only use 6th on the highway when im going over 70mph, anything less and 5th gear is more economical.

I do like how they finnally made a transmission with a 6th/top gear designed to run at ~75mph

kudos to nissan
There it is then. Traffic generally moves 70mph on my way to work. Thats the priveledge of getting to work before 6:30, no traffic jams.

I did use 5th a little more this morning since traffic was slower.
I only use 5th and 6th on the highway. Heavy traffic I am in 5th otherwise I cruise in 6th.
Every time I go up I-80 in the mountains. You can't hold 75mph in 6th up some of those grades. I can see how you wouldn't have much of a chance to experience this in MN though.

I never hear a growl. Do you think it is the clutch pedal? I used to have a Jetta that sort of growl/squeaked when you pushed in the pedal.

Nope, its the engine or exhaust, everytime I press in the clutch (Yes, I have let off the gas) she gives me a little growl for like a second right as the clutch is being depressed goes away while i am shifting and releasing it. I assumed this is normal since it has happen since the day I drove it off the lot.

It happens mostly 2nd to 3rd and it's quiter from 3rd to 4th and haven't noticed it 4th to 5th, 5th to 6th.

I bet the mountains could be a little rough in 6th. I only have small hills on my way to work and haven't driven it any where else yet. After the break in period it will be ready for a roady up north and I am sure to find some hills there.
