I just had some 265/75/16 Goodyear Wrangler AT installed and it looks beefy but I'm getting some very noticeable rubbing with even slight turns.

I read that I wouldn't need to do the melt mod for this tire size but I guess I will need to.

Could the rubbing be from an old suspension issue? Old shocks/struts and the trucks just sitting lower than usual?

EDIT: For future readers, I have aftermarket wheels. DX4 Recons 16x8.

I don't I replaced most of it and got about an 1.5 inch lift, but it's not really high enough to help clear the tire.

I bought an 07 and the suspension was sad
Interesting. I would've assume that's enough of an upgrade to clear 285's. Good thing I didn't go with 285's I would be in trouble with the stock suspension.

Yeah aint that the truth. I have a 2011 X model and the suspension is definitely sad. I just don't do much offroading so it hasn't affected me until I got these tires. Hoping a melt mod will get me by for a few weeks until I can get some new shocks and struts.

Do you have aftermarket wheels? If not, I'd say you need to get your alignment done and have them correct the caster a little bit, to rotate the tires away from the fender. 265's are stock Pro4X size and shouldn't rub, unless you're running wheel spacers or a negative offset wheel.

Unless he has added cam bolts to the LCA's, his caster is not adjustable.

That said, if his 265 is rubbing, it does sound like maybe he added cam bolts, and they are set for way too much negative caster.

As others have said if you are running stock rims then there is no way those tires should be rubbing. If they are on stock rims you have something wrong.

They pretty much have it covered... you have an EXTREMELY out of wack alignment, wheel spacers, or wider offest wheels.

FYI, almost no amount of lift will clear the rubbing at the back edge of the fender. Its dead center in the tire height. You'd have to go up 6 or 7 inches to get the tire out of the wheel well. And even then, it'll compress back into the "stock location" on bumps. So yeah, 2 inches does NOTHING for clearance. The truck just rests at a different spot in the suspension travel that it still has.

And yes, it rubs at 'slight steering' because thats when the corner of the tire passes that corner. It has PLENTY of room once at full lock.

I mean guys… it’s an OEM tire size on the Xterra. A 265 doesn’t come close to rubbing unless something is wildly wrong.
Even on aftermarket wheels? Not sure what could be wrong. I have had the alignment done since installing the new tires and wheels. Ive been told my shocks and struts are pretty worn down but other than that I'm not sure what could be wildly wrong ...

I'm a little concerned with everyone's answers. I'm driving to California Monday so the rig needs to be ready...

I got an alignment done right after the tire and wheel installation. I haven't messed with cam bolts or spacers or anything. What could be wrong?

Only thing I can think of is my DX4 recons are 16x8 where as the stock wheel I had was 16x7.

It also looks like your suspension is seriously sagging. You may want to measure from the ground up to the top of the wheel well. Per the owners manual here are the stock measurements:

Anything less that the above measurements would indicate springs that need to be replaced.
