Hi all-

This is my first post so I will apologize in advance if I'm not posting this in the right section etc. The bank 2 (drivers side) catalytic converter was just replaced. A few hours after I picked the vehicle from the shop I started to hear a clicking or ticking like sound while I was accelerating. It only makes this sound when the car is in Drive and is motion over about 35-40 mph. If it's in Park and I rev the engine up I cannot get it to make that sound. It never made this sound prior to the cat replacement. I was investigating a potential exhaust leak yesterday and identified 2 potential causes but I'm not sure. First off, the mechanic failed to tighten the top screw where the cat mounts. (Pictured). I tightened it down the very best that I could. The noise is still there but doesn't appear to be as loud. However, that could be my imagination. The other potential issue that I observed was a cracked between where the back of the cat mounts to the exhaust system. (Also pictured). Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this. If I didn't leave enough info or specifics please let me know and I will gladly do so. Thanks!

it could possibly be your exhaust heat shields, they're notorious for coming loose & making a tin-like ticking sound. easy fix though. mine had the same exact problem, couple of hose clamps fixed it perfectly.

Get under your vehicle with a dollar bill and run it around all your exhaust connections while your engine is running. If there is an exhaust leak, you will notice your dollar bill fluttering . You can attach the bill to the end of a ruler if you wish but keep the bill flat / dont wrap the bill around the ruler to make it more rigid. The goal is to allow the bill to flutter with even the slightest of air movement.
