So i bought an X back in October, my friends told me not to but I'm a hard head for the X.

the guy i bought it from said he retuned the tranny, which i now believe because it responds like a race tranny, and because of this, the TCM doesn't communicate with the CAN-- U0100 code
i need to do a tune up on the engine and do a tranny flush the Nissan mechanic said they wouldn't touch it because if they did, it might maker things worse.

ill post the codes i get from the reader tonight, any advice/ suggestions would be extremely helpful

I'm already going to do the radiator bypass as suggested here How-to: Bypass Radiator Transmission Cooler - PBR

lemme know your best mods and cool ideas to increase the life/preformance of my xterra

So you can get a shift kit for the RE5R05 transmission, but it changes the spring rates in the valve body and shouldn't do anything with the can communication, unless he buggered up the TCM in the process. My guess is you have at minimum a TCM issue, and possibly a valve body issue if he did in fact install a shift point kit. The question then becomes how much do you want to spend on the transmission, and if its worth swapping a rebuilt TCM and Valve body in or not?

Most shops won't flush an older transmission. They likely fear being blamed for a future transmission problem that may exist already. I wouldn't worry about a fluid change until you get your U1000 code fixed - fluid won't help with that.

You mentioned tune up? There really is no engine tune up needed - the only thing to do is change the plugs at 100K miles, and clean the MAF sensor. There is no distributor or wires, and if your not getting a misfire your coils are likely fine.

How would you suggest getting started on the U1000 code?

I believe the transmission is overfilled. The dipstick is completely covered in transmission fluid when I pull it out. Obviously I pull it out first clean it and then stick it back in and all while it’s running and not cold. And now the transmission seems to clunk as I am in low speed. It’s actually kind of scary
