17 Palms Oasis - Anza Borrego Desert State Park

It seemed appropriate on Christmas Eve, the one year anniversary of buying my X, to head out to the desert for a bit of exploration. 17 Palms Oasis is about 4 miles off the highway, the trail is an easy, sandy wash.

We got in an extra 3 miles or so by taking a wrong turn up (unmarked) Ella Wash, which intersects the highway about 100 yards before we were supposed to turn off. Another sandy wash, with no one else in sight the quiet was great.

Once on the correct trail, it was easy to find the oasis.

The "prospector's post office" has been there, supposedly, since the mid-1800's or so.

Arroyo Salado Wash.

Heading back to the highway.

Stopped to see the cholla cactus field on the way out of the State Park.

One last look back towards Borrego Springs.

Just got back from offroading through Anza and Ocotillo Wells. Always good times out there!

I love that area of Borrego. Lots of fun to explore!!! Great pics.
The next time you are out that way go through Fish Creek.
Seems like we've got quite a few of us in California. We should try to plan a big weekend in the desert.
I would be up for it just let me know when and hopefully I can clear some schedule time.

Just posted some photos from our trip out there the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Fish Creek and Sandstone Canyon are some of my favorites. Some great places for side hikes along that trail.

A friend took this shot of my truck back in March, in Sandstone Canyon. It gets narrower as you keep going.

Keep an eye on the SCCX section of XOC, I'll try to get another group trip out there soon. I'll post somewhere here as well.

Seriously tell me when your free !!
Darn man, I was going to suggest we head out this Sat. Ok, I'll start looking for gaps in my sched.
Thought you were gone this Saturday Syndicate! Saturday is a tune up for my car (oil change, tire pressure setting, and coilover setup) before the Sunday trip. As long as we plan ahead I can clear any weekend day...

Ha! Yeah, I get back at 6am on Sat. Oh well. We'll make this happen eventually. That reminds me, I have to do some minor electrical work before Sun.

Erick, I PMd you my cell # incase you need a walk-through on the coilover setup. I've learned coilover swap lessons the hard way and it can be a bitch if you're not prepared.

What department do you work in at Scripps Lajolla?

It sounds like the Sunday event is pretty mild, so I'd say it's safe to bring your family, but I'm sure just you and your son would have more fun.
