05 vs 06

OK, this may have been posted before, but my super search skill (yeah, i don't have any :) ) didn't yield anything.

went offroad yesterday with my family and my niece inlaw brought her 06 OR. mine is an 05 OR. afterwards, we park next to each other at a restaraunt to grab a bit to eat on the way home. her truck is stock, mine is from a suspension standpoint. anyway, her truck is about 1" taller....grrrrrrr. and, she says she doesn't think it bottoms out. is the bottoming out an 05 only problem? did they change the 06 suspension to fix that and so they are taller?

i plan to do a lift, but haven't figured out which one. will an AAL in the back fix the bottoming out prob?

anyway, thanks in advance. bottomline is...it is lift time!!!!! :bounce:

there really aren't many differences...mostly some options are now standard, and the 'X' trim...

mechanically they are the same, as far as we know.

it could be your springs have settled, or the bumper makes that much of a difference.

I know Grunzen thought that his front was nearly the same height as stock (not true..but lower than it was before the bumper) when he had the AC coils + shrockbumper.

Some people just get 'lucky' with the bumpstops, i know mine didn't do it that much, i really had to go over something pretty hard to bottom out, while others would get it all the time. but the bottoming out problem still exists on the newer ones.

either an AAL or a shackle will help cure the bottoming out problem, the shackle by putting some more space between the axle and bumpstop, the AAL by adding space, AND stiffening the springs alittle.

a popular option is the Timbren bumpstops, which are rubber springs which replace the stock bumpstops and soften that impact.

i have the shackle, and haven't had any bottoming out issues since installation, but i can see that its still possible to bottom out if you hit hard enough.

oh yeah, i really like that gray bumper.

Check out MC's thread on the Timbrens. That should help out with the bottoming in the rear. Auto Zone bump stops up front.

I have similar search results, sometimes I can't find my own stuff!

Maybe you are running different tires, or different tire pressures, or have different weight loads.

I did a posting about the differences between the 2006 and 2007 so maybe someone with the 2005 specs could do the same for the 05 vs 06.

That would be cool! I saw that comparison post! Good stuff!

Dan! Someone is calling you! MC
You do have the added weight of your shrocks stuff...did she? If you are in SLC I am free tomorrow (Monday) and have the bumper ans sliders on my 06...so we could compare apples to apples.
Hey all, thanks for the replies!!! Great info and dang fast.

Rogue, sorry I missed you. What brought you to SLC for the weekend?

My niece does not have the schrocks stuff. I forget that that adds the weight it does. Trying to convince her of at least the sliders.

The settling also makes sense.

Did I mention it is time for a lift???? Just need to figure out which one.

Thanks again.
I get out to Slick City once or twice a quarter to 'work' (Most on this site know I don't do the work thing too often). I'l be back 1st of December doing a Karhu Ski Demo at Alta.
Alta...Damn I miss Utah powder. Haven't been to SLC in over 10 years. Used to love Alta and Solitude, but Deer Valley was super for cruisin. Gotta put up with Sierra Cement whenever I get out nowadays.
