  1. 4WD to 2WD Issue (Seems fixed But Anyone see This?)

    Powertrain & Driveline
Well . . . just picked the Xterra up at the dealer. They said they scanned for codes and found none. Checked all the switches and and everything checked out mechanically as well, but they said the xfer case fuid was definitley in need of being changed. Said there were no leaks but the fluid was...
  2. 4WD to 2WD Issue (Seems fixed But Anyone see This?)

    Powertrain & Driveline
I don't do that nearly enough. I need to start doing that more regularly going forward. Although in this case, I had been in and out of 4WD several times due to this storm and another we had a couple weeks earlier. Worked fine all those previous times. But then suddenly had this pop up...
  3. 4WD to 2WD Issue (Seems fixed But Anyone see This?)

    Powertrain & Driveline
Will do . . . got an appt at the stealership on Thursday to do the 90k and I gave them all the details on this issue to check out. These guys have been pretty good, so far. Same shop that caught the SMOD and replaced the tranny and radiator under the extended warranty.
  4. 4WD to 2WD Issue (Seems fixed But Anyone see This?)

    Powertrain & Driveline
Thanks for the response. It's due for a service anyway (and getting the fluids changed), so I'll get that set up ASAP and see what they say about the issue. I work from home, so I don't have to drive it much or far before then. There was definitely no noise or anything unusual I noticed when...
  5. 4WD to 2WD Issue (Seems fixed But Anyone see This?)

    Powertrain & Driveline
2008 X with 91k. Since we had the Thanksgiving blizzard, I had it in 4WD. Roads were starting to clear, so shifted back to 2WD. Dash display blinked and eventually indicated 2WD. But it sure felt like it was still in 4WD. Steering felt heavy/tight like it was in 4WD and just didn’t seem right...
  6. Not an Xterra Owner yet, But Strongly Considering...

    General Xterra
You'll get a lot of great feedback on here . . . very knowledgeable and helpful guys. I'm probably the least-knowledgeable source, so I don't have much to pass along. But one huge thing to watch out for on the older X models is the SMOD (Strawberry Milkshake of Death). You can read up on it...
  7. How-to: Repair Master Power Window Switch – Updated

    How-to's
Success!!! Temporarily, at least . . . I'm not sure how long my epoxy fix on that little plastic piece will last, but I got the switch connected and the "springiness" was there again. Closed it all up and put it back in the X and all is working well. I'll just have to monitor and hopefully this...
  8. How-to: Repair Master Power Window Switch – Updated

    How-to's
I have some grease on the one end of the spring, but it didn't hold onto the bearing that I didn't know I had lost originally when stuff fell out. I think I picked up the spring and stuck it back in thinking it didn't matter and I put it in upside down (without the bearing and missing that...
  9. How-to: Repair Master Power Window Switch – Updated

    How-to's
I'm thinking this is the correct setup re-assembled with the spring and ball bearing???
  10. How-to: Repair Master Power Window Switch – Updated

    How-to's
I took the switch apart again . . . and I found the ball bearing rolling around in there! So that's good . . . I think. But in the process I also discovered that I may have broken a little part off that lock switch at some point, either originally (which I think is the case) or when I took it...
  11. CANX: Driver's Side Master Window Switch 2008 X

    Wanted Items
Well, I tried the fix and got the window to work again . . . but in the process I either lost a piece for the door lock switch and/or can't get it put together correctly again, so now my door locks are jacked up. I swear, I'm a walking testament to Murphy's Law. I'll keep looking around where I...
  12. How-to: Repair Master Power Window Switch – Updated

    How-to's
Well . . . good news, bad news. I tried this today and the contacts were really dirty and I managed to get the windows all working again. The bad new is . . . something went wrong with the door lock part of it. I wasn't expecting pieces to fall out when I took the board off, but a little white...
  13. CANX: Driver's Side Master Window Switch 2008 X

Sounds good . . . will check out the contact cleaning first. Thanks for the suggestions!
  14. CANX: Driver's Side Master Window Switch 2008 X

    Wanted Items
***Update*** Was able to fix my switch thanks to the awesome site members Looks like my widow switch is going out . . . right side rear window sporadically working from the driver's side control, but works fine from the control on that actual door. So pretty sure it's the main switch on the...

  17. Wild Country XTX Sports - Any Recent Use/Feedback?

    Brakes, Tires and Wheels
Well . . . I guess I'll be the guinea pig. I decided to try the Back Country AT from Schwab. 30 day trial with money back guarantee, so if I don't like them I can get something else. 60k warranty. Has the traction tire designation. Got them put on this morning and we'll see how they do. Already...
  18. Wild Country XTX Sports - Any Recent Use/Feedback?

    Brakes, Tires and Wheels
Just to add . . . spoke with another Les Schwab in town and apparently they also have a Back Country A/T that is the new replacement for the XTX and is a little more (but not by a lot). Said it was going to be an improvement over the XTX. So that may also be a consideration if anyone has recent...
  19. Wild Country XTX Sports - Any Recent Use/Feedback?

    Brakes, Tires and Wheels
It's getting time to look into some new tires for my 2008 X and so I am doing some research. I have been running Firestone Destination A/T's and have used those on my old Passport and an Explorer. I have been pretty happy with them . . . they seem to wear well, ride well, etc. They are "decent"...
  20. Turn Signal Switch w/Fog Light Switch

    Electrical
Based on your VIN comment and talking with a Nissan parts dude . . . my thought that it may have gotten "fixed" along the way with the non-fog-light-enabled part is plausible. If a tech was working on it and wasn't paying attention and went by the VIN, that could explain it. I ordered the part...
