I think you will find that the vibration will eventually rub through the paint, even though the can is on a rubber mat.

NOW... my question is, How often do you plan to do this? Just once in a while or all the time? How rough are the roads you will be on? There are really too many unknown factors, for me at least, to give a definitive answer.

I put down a small pad below a 3 gal Rotopax and strapped it down with cam straps to the stock rack. Drove from TX to UT including at least 50 miles of dirt roads with no problems whatsoever. Just vented the can daily.
Having said that, I recently installed some rubber roof strips from Courtesy Parts so that I can do it again more easily in the future.

3-4 days, up to a 1000 miles, a few of them off-road. Sounds like Iíll be ok.

Straight to the sheet metal roof with ratchet straps sounds like it ends with a bent roof, but that's just speculation.

I do it all the time with a big plastic bike box. Pops down, pops up, no big deal. Maybe I've just been lucky. I do have foam rubber strips running down the roof ribs.

Wheel spacers....

I have a stock 2012 S 4x4 with the standard 265 tires on.

If I get 1 inch spacers do i need to trim the studs?

If i get 1.5" spacers do I need to do a melt mod / cut and or hammer metal to prevent rubbing?

second dumb question..

Best place to mount Sirius XM Antennae on the outside? Follow up question to that... Will it be affected by touch car-washes? torn off?

An option for you if you want to carry Rotopax:

Also, if you just need a couple gallons a 2GL Rotopax fits in the wet box up top.
