Thanks guys. We have kids event start at $245. You would have to use your stock headlights and do the work yourself but it's a very reasonable price for the upgrade in output.

Those look awesome! Did you do the 55w upgrade or stick with the 35w?

I bought Morimoto H1 projectors, shrouds, 6000k bulbs, 35w ballasts, 9007 harness from a local shop here in Vancouver for a hair over $300CAD with taxes in. I did the retrofit along with painting of the reflectors in black chrome and installation over a weekend. It's really easy. Surprisingly easy.

The most difficult thing was: reversing the pins on the harness for hi/lo. The 1mm flat screwdriver I was using just refused to push down the lock tab on one side.

Just wanted to say that your review was very helpful.

I also just pulled the trigger on the retrofit from Tom. However, I was not aware of the DLR issue with the HID retrofits until yesterday. Like you I am in Canada, and by-law we need to have DRL function.

Did you just disable the DRL function or is there another way around it (ie another set of DRL lights or something that could be added to the retorfit such as LED strips)? Did you have any issues with getting pulled over for not having "enough light"/missing DRL.

Thanks in advance for any info

I bought this 55W Dual Beam Kensun HID Xenon 9007 (HB5) kit from Amazon for the headlights, just for 70$. I've also bought these 55W Kensun HID Xenon H11 kit for the fog lights, just for 60$. I bought them both at 6000K color, but H11 6000K is not available at the moment. You can choose 5000K or any other available color you want.
They worked very good for the last 2 years. There are a few complains though. First, the connectors are not very high quality and there was a pin mismatch for high and low beam. Second, their ballast life expectancy is not too long. In fact, it's somehow equal to 180 days (6 month 24 hours lights on). Since I keep my headlights on all the time I drive the car day or night, both headlights ballasts have been replaced in past 6 months (one gone after 1.5 year the other after 2 years).
And last complain is they don't lit instantly. When you turn them on, it takes few seconds to get full illumination. If they are hot already, it would be much faster though.

You won't need to disable the DRLs but you just won't have any DRLs because the ballasts won't kick in at half voltage. Some of the cheap ebay ballasts will still power up without full voltage and this results in the bulbs flickering.
You can get yourself some LED strips or whatever you fancy and just wire them into the circuit.

I didn't have DRLs for about a week or so while I waited for my LEDs to show up and I never had any issues with the police
