2017 ARRL Field Day is June 24-25 Field Day

We welcome the public to come learn more about ham radio!
Use our Field Day Locator to search for a Field Day site near you.
Field Day Station Locator

Field Day is ham radio's open house.
Every June, more than 40,000 hams throughout North America set up temporary transmitting stations in public places to demonstrate ham radio's science, skill and service to our communities and our nation.
It combines public service, emergency preparedness, community outreach, and technical skills all in a single event.
Field Day has been an annual event since 1933, and remains the most popular event in ham radio.

ARRL FIELD DAY 2017 - SANTA CLARA VALLEY EDITION
--------------------------------------------------------------------

This Saturday and Sunday is the 2017 ARRL Field Day. This year there
are roughly 14 registered groups participating in the event. As
usual if you are interested in finding a Field Day site near you
please visit: Field Day Station Locator.

I have confirmed with several members of the Santa Clara Valley
field organization that they will be visiting various sites. I also
plan to visit as many sites as possible, so perhaps I will see some
of you this weekend!

Remember there is also an opportunity for 100 bonus points for
origination of a National Traffic System (NTS) style formal message
to the ARRL Section Manager or Section Emergency Coordinator by your
group from its site. You should include the club name, number of
participants, Field Day location, and number of ARES operators involved
with your station. The message must be transmitted via radio during the
Field Day period and a fully serviced copy of it must be included in your
submission, in standard ARRL NTS format, or no credit will be given.

This message must leave the Field Day site via Amateur Radio, however
it does not have to be delivered to the SM or SEC via the radio.
You can send this message via mail, e-mail, telephone, or hand
delivered note. If you wish to take advantage of these points my
contact information can be found in QST or online at our website
Santa Clara Valley | Monterey, Santa Cruz, San Benito, San Mateo, & Santa Clara Counties. Larry Carr, KE6AGJ is our Section
Emergency Coordinator (SEC) and his contact information is also
available at our website.

Please send any photos or videos you wish to share from Field Day
to me at [email protected]. For the full 2017 Field Day rules you can
visit https://goo.gl/SBjnVi

Thatís perfect! I was just going to Google Fu for my prep. But, if I do find myself in need, Iíll let you know and will take any guidance youíre able to provide that wonít be an inconvenience for you.

In addition to the resources listed in the first post, I downloaded an exam prep app by Patrick Maloney onto my iPhone. Did a significant portion of my studying while sitting at red lights, standing in line at the grocery store, throwing the ball for my dogs, etc.

I watched 'Contact' tonight and this part was cool. She's calling CQ for her Dad after his funeral. Skip to 3:30 if you want to go right to the call. There's another scene of her and her Dad and her first Ham contact earlier in the movie too. Made me think of my first contact. "What do I say?" Cool.

Runners .... yeah, we're different
