I use this because I get them at a local government excess auction place that's open to the public on Wednesdays for $2 a piece. I have 3 in each vehicle. I've never had one not plug a tire until I could make it back to civilization and get over to the garage and pull the tire to do a proper patch.

Well, I did get one of these gauges. Inexpensive though you can always do the coin/quarter test. Would be handy if shopping used tires/spares.

Also saw an inexpensive clicky torque valve core insertion tool. Might be a handy companion for the ARB deflator. Who knew there was a torque standard for valve cores (3-5 inch-lbs)?

I've used Safety Seal for 30 years.......I've seen the knock off kit up close and personal and imo it's fine.....perfectly adaquate. But that said I ONLY use Safety Seal plugs.....

A proper plug will actually vulcanize with the tire. You DON'T want to skimp on your plugs.

I also HIGHLY recommend this tire tread depth gauge.....

All metal and really decent quality ESPECIALLY for the price. ($9 shipped Prime) Compared to the cheapies.....it's a deal at twice the price. I liked it so much I bought 2 for me and 1 for my brother.

More like three times The dial gauge looks like a fine unit and also affordable. But I must say the cheapie Slime gauge works very well. It's simple and bulletproof (basically a miniature ruler). There's no stiction on the plunger so it makes repeatable measurements. And the standoff is wide so works with widely spaced tire lugs.

A little hard to read for my aging eyeballs though

Agreed! I have one like the slime brand one as well....in fact I've had many like that over the years, in fact that's all I ever had, and they work great. That's pretty much all you can buy in a brick n mortar without paying a small fortune.

After finding these? It lives in my glove box and the dial gauges go in my tool boxes.
