Roof Rack Options

Hello! Just bought a 2006 X. It has the factory roof rack and (2) factory cross bars. My questions are these:

What roof basket(s) work with the factory cross bars?
Can I mount a RTT on the factory cross bars?
Are there canopy/awning mounts available for the factory roof rack?
What mounts are available for shovels and jacks that work with the factory roof rack?

Thanks!!

Welcome!

All these questions have been answered and are waiting for you to read. Here's how you find them, use your key words in a Google search. For example, copy this and paste it into a Google search.

Iíll put in a plug for my own drop-in roof rack that I produce.

Lowest profile out there.
Presently $350 less shipping. Mounts via drilling thru rails with 4 or 6 bolts depending on load youíll be placing on it.
Accessory mounting holes, and I occasionally run an RTT on it, attaching with just 4 bolts thru same holes.

If I were in the market again, I'd buy this one. Lots get the Dephep, I bought the Garmin. I overpaid for what I got. Dave does better work at a better price.

I really dig your rack! When I get the money together I’ll be in touch. What’s average lead time?

To my knowledge, only a one roof rack has been designed and made (2 have been made) to work with the factory cross bars.. and that's the Zheking style limited production by @29erClan roof rack. We thought this up because we use our stock cross bars for kayak racks, but also when we need to throw things on top. I actually got 3 Kayaks on top one time.

No, do NOT mount a RTT to the factory cross bars, put it on the main rails on the side. The plastic ends of the stock cross bars can't handle the weight of an RTT, and will crack / break. @Chase5Hart can give more info on this subject, he has an RTT and wheels with his. I think even a few times with Dave?

Canopy awning mounts / shovels / jacks you will all find a similar range of products for mounting them from anywhere from just small u bolts to clamps to all kind of stuff. Personally, I keep my hi-lift under my rear seats, and I have an "E-tool" style shovel that folds up nicely and it's under the passenger seat. that's just my preference because I never use them.. (except the shovel.. for wood poops, but it's easy to get to there; and I keep biodegrade baby wipes next to it.)

That being said, I will HAPPILY plug Dave's (maxterra) stuff, as will most people, if not all, on this forum. It's is THE BEST. You won't find better quality or fitment for your X; I always push his gear because I have some of his gear... I'm not sure who is doing his powder coating, whether it's him or who ever, but the only powder coating I've seen better was stuff I did myself... (and that was small stuff, I spent HOURS sand blasting, and had to bake with a regular house sized oven, I don't have access to large enough heat & sand blasting to do large bumpers and stuff). You won't find a better finish or quality on any other manufacturer's product. When you decide on a rear tire carrier, he's the ONLY way to go... He also makes sliders. I wish Dave would make an aluminum front bumper (hint hint) That being said...

I'm just trying to figure out why @maXTERRA hasn't started making the ZheKing style @29erClan manufactured roof rack where you can still use the stock cross bars, because I've had a couple few people ask me about mine, and I have no other answer than "it's custom", and I would much rather refer business to Dave. The plans are on the site and totally available.

I have a dephep roof rack, solid piece of equipment but I've had it for 18 months and its starting to rust pretty bad on some of the welds. I'm going to do some touch up but would probably go with Maxterra's if i ever replace mine.

You can't go wrong with the Maxterra or Dephep racks, but if you know how to weld it is a pretty simple and fun project. Will be giving it a good workout in Death Valley next week.
