Question R180 Axle Question - Should I Open it Up?

I am slowly acquiring parts to upgrade my 2005 S to 3.69 gearing with an e-locker. I recently found a seller on ebay that had a reman axle for sale. When I asked him who did the reman and where the gears were sourced from he said that it was actually a new part, but since it wasn't boxed and he had no paperwork to prove it, he was advertising it as a reman.

The seller seemed reputable and had a lot of transactions with good feedback, so I decided to roll the dice and buy it. It arrived the other day and it looks to be in good shape. At least as far as I can tell from the outside. Which leads me to my question. Do you think I should open it up and inspect the inside before I install it? Is there a way to verify the gear ratio without opening it up?

Pretty easy to pop the cover. Just need some RTV to seal it back up.
Those end plugs are pretty cool.
