So I let Air into my Cooling System

Just attempted doing my first coolant drain and fill. Watched a couple videos... one guy never opens the radiator and only works with the reservoir.. another has the radiator open.

Somehow I ended up filling at the radiator with the res also open.

Heater blowing ice cold now.

So far ive lifted up the front of the vehicle and attempted purging the air from the system.

Tried with both caps off, one or the other caps off and squeezing upper radiator hose. NO luck

LOL anyone got any tips??

Thanks

Youre likely low. Top it off, run till hot, then burb it safely. Do that a few times and you should be good.

Yes, caps on and run it till hot, but don't allow it to overheat obviously. Use a towel to protect yourself and you don't need to wait hours.

Keep cap on rad. Fill into expansion tank when cold with engine running. Close tank cap. Run til hot with heater on. Let cool again. Repeat until full and heater blows hot. May take several fills.
Check level in expansion tank with cold engine running.

FWIW when I replaced my radiator last time I just ran the heat on high, kept the tank cap on and filled from the radiator until it started to overflow. Let it cool off and then filled the tank to the very top and for the next week checked it and added more coolant as needed before driving.

There's also this method if you wanted to do it in one shot.

This is the method I followed (same method that MartinX describes), may take a bit longer overall but pretty easy to do every morning before going to work.

How-to: Correct and More Problems if Heater Blows Cold at Idle or No Heat

Also provides a great explanation on why you think you are topped off by looking at the "max" line in the degas tank, but you really aren't.
